A MANTEL THROUGH THE YEAR

A Year of Mantel Decor-Bargain Decorating with Laurie

V'tine Mantel 11

Valentine Mantel

The fireplace mantel in our family room goes through a lot of changes throughout the year. To see the full post for any of these mantels, you may click on the name under the image.

St Patrick Decor

It's usually the first place I decorate for a holiday or a season.

It's the center of the activity in our home, so it always starts the new season off for us.

SPRING MANTEL 10

For a lot of years, I didn't have a fireplace mantel in houses where we lived, so now I enjoy taking advantage of that surface every chance I get.

When I was decorating the mantel for New Years, my sweetheart asked, with a sigh, are you changing the mantel again? How many times a year do you do that?

His question made me curious, so I reviewed my mantel posts in 2015. I have to admit I didn't think it had changed twelve times in twelve months.

But the proof was in my blog posts. Fortunately, he doesn't read my blog, or he'd know exactly how many times I've changed the mantel.

I can understand thinking that twelve times in twelve months is a little excessive.

We've only been married 46 years. In "man years", that's probably not enough time for him to realize that I'm always excessive in my décor.

So, if I can count on you to not mention to him that our mantel has been redecorated twelve times in twelve months, I won't mention it to him either.

I'm sure that this time next year, if he happens to see me redecorating the mantel, he'll ask me the same question again.

And I'll probably give him the same answer again...I'm not sure, but it really isn't very often.

It'll be okay, because as we know, a man's memory of décor or conversations with his wife don't last a whole year.

I just want to thank each of you have read BDwL throughout 2015. I know some of you have been reading it longer than that. Some have even been reading it since my first post went live in 2008. I am so fortunate to have such great blog reader friends, and I appreciate each of you more than you could ever know. Let's have a great 2016!

I don't know when I started reading your blog but I think it was right after you started. I love to look at your decorations and especially like your mantle. I've had a couple of houses over the years that had fireplaces, but have never had a mantle.
I think it's cute that your hubby asks how many times you change it. He might not know how many times, but he does notice the change. Lol

I'm a fairly new follower, and loved the look back at " Twelve months of Mantels!" It's nice that your husband notices the changes, and undoubtedly, he doesn't mind, as long as he doesn't have to do it! Happy Mew Year, and I look forward to another year of your lovely posts.

How in the world do you get so many things on your mantel without stuff falling off? My hubs picked up something off my Christmas mantel amidst the greenery and one of my deer fell off and broke 2 of his legs. 😟 A lot of times the greenery, artificial or real shifts and falls off taking everything with it.

Laurie, each month that your mantel changes gives all of us a look at the fun things you have for that holiday or season. I took a look back through the months carefully. Hum ~ can you guess my favorite? Don't you just love spring??????
Happy New Year to you and your sweetheart. All the best for 2016!

I always love looking at your mantles! You have inspired me to add some things to my mantle decorating, like banners for St. Patty's Day and Spring. Maybe I can get my valentine one done this year. Thanks for sharing.
