ADDING THE HALLOWEEN TO FALL

Halloween Decor-Bargain Decorating with Laurie

It seems like it was only a few days ago that I showed you my mantel decorated for Fall (here). Now, I've added Halloween to the mantel. Before we know it, our mantel will be decorated for Christmas!

The photo shoot for this post was disastrous. I wanted to take a photo with the candles lit. See that spider on the front of the lantern? There was also one on the lantern on the other end of the mantel, but when I opened the lantern to light the candle, the other spider fell off, and I still haven't found it!

See that candle above the witch? When I lit the candles, I forgot to light it and the other one that matches it.

My dough bowl and deer sheds from my Fall mantel stayed for the Halloween mantel.

I removed the platter with the Fall geese on it and replaced it with a Halloween platter.

See. There's my lantern without the spider on it. Maybe I'll find it when we put up the Christmas tree.

My daughter gave me this Fall Welcome banner years ago on my birthday. I love hanging it every Fall.

Another disaster. Sometimes, being a bargain hunter doesn't pay off. I found some battery-powered candles on sale one time-fifty cents for six votive candles. I wondered why they were so cheap, but being the tightwad bargain hunter that I am, I couldn't resist buying some. I used them in these little jack-o-lanterns and in the lantern buckets on the hearth. Two of them never worked and the lights on the rest of them were so dim, I couldn't tell whether or not I had turned them on. The one in the black bucket won't turn off. I guess I'll wait for the battery to die before I replace the candle.

Soooo, I need to learn that what seems to be a bargain may not always be a bargain. But I know I won't be able to pass something up if there is a chance that it is a  bargain.

Hi Laurie, such a wonderful Halloween Mantel. I love it since I don't do much with Halloween as I mainly decorate with a harvest look. Your banners are so awesome and I love those tussie mussies. You always do such a fabulous job bringing in whatever holiday is upon us. Thank you for sharing.
Hugs, cm

Love your Halloween mantle! Sometimes photo shoots don't work out as planned... But that's okay, your pictures look great! I once bought some cheap candles, they were scrappy too... Never again. Ended up spending more money to get the right ones which I should've just bought in the first place! Those tussie Mussies (autocorrect hates those words!) are adorable!

Hi Laurie - So I'm chuckling for two reasons... first of all... your "fails" are a million times better than most people's successes. Secondly... the spider... rolling. I lost part of my car key FOB... looked for over a week without success... had it replaced for $500 and... ta da... found it the next day! Happy Halloween to you! Hugs, Holly
