CINDERELLA DRESSED IN YELLOW

Cinderella dressed in “yella”  (note: I did grow up in the South)
Went upstairs to kiss her fella…
Did y’all sing that little rhyme when you were a child, while jumping rope with friends?  I can’t remember the rest of it, but because of this rhyme, I always pictured Cinderella in a yellow dress.
When I was a junior bridesmaid in a wedding, I received a figurine as a gift from the bride.  She immediately became Cinderella, because she was wearing a yellow dress.
cndrellaOf course, the figurine is a bridesmaid.  I now think that this bridesmaid looks pregnant!  I was so naive when I received her that it would not have occurred to me that Cinderella (or a bridesmaid) might be pregnant.  (To tell ya the truth, it just occurred to me when I posted this photo, and we won’t talk about how old I am now!)
One of my granddaughters turned four this week.  She loves anything having to do with princesses, including the story of Cinderella, so I decided to have a “Cinderella at the Ball” theme on her table.  She previously had a birthday party with her friends, so this was just a family dinner on her birthday.

I used those inexpensive aluminum cookie trays for chargers. FULL TBL
PLACE STG
PLACE MAT
Place card holders were paper dolls, dressed in their finery for the ball.  PLACE CRDS

Oh No! Here is the carriage to pick up Cinderella.  We better run, before the coach becomes a pumpkin.  (Maybe my Cinderella figurine swallowed her coach after it became a pumpkin!)
CARRIAGE
TABLE
Since my tablescapes usually look like they are for a child anyway, I always love having an excuse to really do a child’s tablescape – especially if it is for one of my precious grandchildren.

Oh I LOVE Cinderella! Had to have her on each of my birthday cakes growing up!
How fun, you did a marvelous job on that table, and the tiny chandy in the windows...how adorable! Happy Birthday to your grand daughter!
By the way, the ditty we sang was
Cinderella dressed in yella
Went upstairs to kiss a fella
Made a mistake and kissed a snake
How many doctor's did it take?

(we used it to count fists to see who would be "it" for street games!)

Here in the North we also sang the tune. When I was little I did so much singing that even now a song will just pop out without warning.
My husband can't believe I know so many children songs. I can't believe he knows none! :)
Your Granddaughter must have had the best day!

Adorable, Laurie! Your grands must have so much fun with you as their grandmother. ~ Sarah

I think the jump rope rhyme goes:

Cinderella
dressed in yella
Went upstairs
to kiss a fella
Made a mistake
kissed a snake
How many doctor's did it take?

Then we would count how many jumps one could jump before missing. ;-)

Boy I wish I had a Grandma like you! Who else could actually make a real ballroom? Adorable! The coach and horses are the piece de resistance!

(I kind of remember jumping rope to this, but I could never get beyond two or three jumps, so I don't think I ever heard the whole thing!! LOL!!)

I just love this table, and what a blessed little girl she is!! I thought the paper doll placecards were the best part of all, but I really just loved the whole look. I'll bet they felt all grown up and frou frou.

Laurie, what a darling table! I know your granddaughter was thrilled. LOVE the vintage paperdolls as placecards! I still love paperdolls -- remember Betsy McCall in McCall magazine?

What a sweet idea; your grandkids are lucky to have such a creative grandmama. Did the belle of the ball enjoy her tablescape?

Delightful table for a wonderful party.
Back in the day of those great hooped skirts no one could tell if one added a few pound, but pregnant? No way. The cheeks will always tell.
Maybe Cinderella was taking home a few treats from the party tucked under that skirt!

Thanks to Sarah for giving me the rest of the poem. I will recite it while I eat my Chicken Fried Steak in cream gravy!
You table is the cutest, and your gkids are the luckiest to have you!

Pregnant, LOL! Nah, wait till the baby is old enough to be a ring bearer or bridesmaid, then get married, LOL Sure is a different world than when we grew up!

Cinderella was my favorite too and in PA growing up we sang or said that rhyme, I have not heard or thought of it in many years now and cannot remember the rest either. Nice table, set up for a princess indeed!

What a cute tablescape--what a lucky little girl your granddaughter is!

The Cinderella figurine--well, I'm thinkin' that she is standing over a heating vent and it is making the dress billow out. I used to do that as a kid, wearing a long flannel nightgown and getting warm over the vent on a cold winter's morning.

p.s. Love the little Bargain Hunter card on your sidebar. After witnessing similar behavior at the local stores the day after Christmas, I now stay home.
