THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

I already did a post about my nativity on the family room mantel, so today I’m sharing some of the other nativities in our home.
more than a day
My sweetheart and I purchased this nativity set that is in our bedroom our first Christmas as a married couple. (Yep! It’s close to being vintage now!)

This Mikasa nativity, which I purchased at an estate sale, is on the fireplace mantel in our bedroom.

There is a nativity (pieces collected from various estate sales) in our front foyer.

This one is in the grandchildren’s overnight room.

I should have opened the door on the kitchen china cabinet to photograph these figures from the 1950’s Woolworth Five & Dime store nativity set.

This “Mary, Joseph, and Jesus” figurine is also in the kitchen.
HOLY FMLY
The snow globe (that no longer snows) is in our sunroom.

Under each of the two trees in the family room, there is a nativity set that can be played with by the grandchildren. (It really doesn’t bother me that the crib for Baby Jesus is broken in one set or that, when I took this photo, I couldn’t find Baby Jesus for the other set. I’m just glad the grandchildren are playing with them.)

My favorite nativity is only in our home on Christmas Eve each year, when our grandchildren and their cousins re-enact the birth of Christ. (That’s “Jesus” in the red Christmas suit, eating a cracker – the only way we could keep him in the basket until the end of the pageant, when the children sang “Happy Birthday to Jesus”.) (His twin brother is in his blue shepherd costume, and he is also eating a cracker – they obviously take after their Daddy, who is our nephew. The only way to entertain them is to give them something to eat!)

Hi Laurie,
Oh I love your nativity collection. It is just wonderful. I love to display mine too and each year I look forward to setting them up. It is just not Christmas without a nativity scene on display.
Such a darling pic of your grands and cousins. Such dear memories.

Your header is wonderful.
Have a wonderful Christmas.
Hugs from Texas, Celestina Marie

Laurie,
My favorite is the grandchildren and their cousins. This will be a wonderful Christmas Memory/Family Tradition for them. I have given a couple of children friendly nativity scenes as Baby Shower gifts, not even during Christmas. Fisher Price makes a great one. Sometimes you have to order it online. As always thanks for sharing.
You are the best at making me feel good. MimiKay1950

Love these! Every one is so unique in its own way. I love the idea of the one that you collected in pieces from various estate sales. I wouldn't have thought to keep my eyes open for something like that, but what a good idea.

The ones that the kids play with are cute, and the CUTEST of course is the last one. I love that you included it.

I so remember going to Woolworth in St. Louis when I was little. We would pick up Grandma once a week and go there to have lunch and shop! It is one of my earliest memories as it was before I started Kindergarten!! Thanks for reminding me! Everything looks great!! Wonderful reason for the season!!

Hi Laurie....I love the nativity scenes, and especially the LIVE nativity. Oh, my goodness - adorable! We have twin granddaughters, so I know how much fun twins can be. Love, love, love it! I have a nice nativity set and another one that I got from Woodworth's in the early 70's, and the grandies play with it, retelling the story - so sweet. You are right....Jesus is the reason for the season! Linda

Laurie, All of your collections are wonderful, including your Nativity sets. I've never seen a Mikasa style set before. I am on the look-out for a stable. I bought a set at a store's GOB sale, but didn't find a stable. That Italian brand (starts with the letter, F) is too expensive for me, but they have the size I want. How sweet the the little kiddos re-enact the Nativity. ♥ Sue

Oh my goodness, I'm glad I scrolled down and saw this post -- which had the BEST nativity scene at the end. What a delight -- is there anything better than children at Christmas? No , not even eggnog!!!

Adorable ... love the cracker bribes!
(works for me, too.)
