FRIDAY FAVES-THE PILGRIMS AND A CELEBRITY HAVE LANDED

Thanksgiving Decor-Bargain Decorating with Laurie

The landing of the pilgrims, and the establishment of America truly seem miraculous, so pilgrims are a "must-have" in my Thanksgiving vignettes.

The struggles and obstacles the Pilgrims faced must have seemed almost impossible to surmount.

But they were able to struggle through, and for that I am grateful.

Another miracle occurred when the Pilgrims and their adversaries, the Native Americans, came together to give thanks-the first Thanksgiving dinner. (This is the way I learned it in school, and I like to think that it is factual, although there have been recent reports to the contrary.) This vintage Thanksgiving dinner pop-up is about to bite the dust, but I'm going to display it as long as I can.

I live in a very small town, and it's almost a miracle that Al Roker came to our town for his Rokerthon. Our town borders several other states, so we were an easy way to work Arkansas into his tour.

Our retro Greyhound Bus Station is on the Historical Registry. It is currently used for civic offices, and that is where we met Al.

There was a lot of excitement when he arrived. We don't get a lot of excitement in our little town.

There I am, incognito in my sunglasses, over the shoulder of the news reporter. It was fun being an Al Roker "groupie" for a few minutes.

This week, I shared our Thanksgiving fireplace mantel (here).

I shared birthday tablescapes for a cowboy (my sweetheart) and a princess (one of my granddaughters) (here).

It was so nice to have you drop in today. Have a great weekend.

How exciting! One of my favorite Thanksgiving shows was when Al Roker went to Plymouth Plantation (tying in both themes of your post). It used to come on every year and now I can't find it! Should have taped it (and yes, I still have a VCR Haha!) Love all your decorations, Laurie!

Great post! I like all your pilgrim figurines. I hope the stories we've been told are fairly accurate- but someone always seems to be trying to re-write history these days. That Greyhound station is pretty cool- love the retro look. Al sure has gotten around hasn't he!
