OUR SUNROOM

In a recent post, when I shared the “Fall”-like china set that I had put on the buffet in our sunroom, I told you that I had rearranged the sunroom and would share that soon.  Photographing our sunroom is difficult, because it is long and narrow.

Bargain Hunting with Laurie-Sunroom

It is filled with light, which also makes it difficult to photograph, and since it’s in my home, it is also filled with a lot of “stuff”.

Birds and flowers are everywhere.

Several readers asked about the color on this buffet.  I’m sorry, I don’t know the color. A couple of years ago, I ordered it, in this color, through One Kings Lane.

My sweetheart jokes that bargain furniture finds me.  Once, when we attended an outdoor concert, I came home with a vintage sofa, and he said he was sure nobody else at that concert came home with a sofa.  Another day, I went to the grocery store and came home with two chairs I bought from the bed of a pickup truck that was in the grocery store parking lot.  When I told the driver that I liked his chairs, he told me he was taking them to his daughter’s so she could sell them at a yard sale.  I said, you need not drive any further!

That’s why it didn’t surprise my sweetheart when I went to get a hair cut and came home with this toile-upholstered chair.  I spotted it in the back of my hair dresser’s vehicle on my way into the shop.  When I asked her about it, she said she was taking it to a consignment shop.  Of course, you see the evidence of what my reply was!Sunroom-Bargain Hunting with Laurie

This table and chairs are what caused the entire room to get rearranged.  When we have 30 guests for holiday dinners, I seat eight people at this table. I’ve always had to move furniture around, so the table isn’t so crowded.  I have now arranged it so that we can seat eight without having to move furniture for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.

This loveseat is a rocker, and it was in our home when I was growing up.  My sweetheart and I shared many kisses while sitting on this loveseat, and I was even sitting on it when he proposed. It’s a piece of furniture that is staying with us.  When I rearranged this room, the blue buffet traded places with this loveseat.

engagmnt

You really can’t see the loveseat in this photo of the proposal.  You’ll just have to trust me when I say I am sitting on it. At that time, it was upholstered in a nubby green fabric.

ladder

On the other side of the loveseat, this “ship’s ladder” leads to a small office, and causes problems with furniture placement in this room.

On the opposite side of the ladder, there is another small seating area, along with a desk where I occasionally sit to write.

At the risk of this post being too long, I have to tell you about my Red Goose shoe display that I bought at auction and shared in a previous post.  When we attended the auction, I knew that American Pickers had been there before the auction.  When I saw the televised segment, I was so excited to see that the Pickers bought two of these Red Goose displays and paid four times what I had paid!  Then, they said they would double their money on them when they sell them.  That’s when this Red Goose display, which I had put on the back porch, came inside to live in the sunroom!

I’m trying to anticipate a question.  Ten years ago, my sweetheart and I stained the concrete floor in the sunroom and in our family room (before I had even heard of blogging, so I don’t have a tutorial for it on my blog).

Thank you for joining me in the sunroom today.  laurie

I love your sun room with all the goodies. Wish I had one, but in our 125 year old house, they didn't have sunrooms! And yes, you do seem to 'attract' furniture to you....beckon it, and it appears. Not sure if that is good or bad! Thanks for sharing, Vicki in Louisville KY

Fabulous sun room Laurie. I have been seriously considering our hearth room as a sun room. There are plenty of windows and it leads to the back porch, so I think it would work great.

Your room is absolutely beautiful!

It's a great room! Was it a porch? Wondering what the dimensions are. :) Because I'm curious that way.
Thought about you this weekend; had TWO Blytheville-born folks in MY sunroom!
Your room is so pretty and the STUFF makes it absolutely wonderful.
Hugs!

What a pretty sunroom. The stained glass window propped caught my eye - just gorgeous! Dropping by from Met Monday. Hope you'll come see my grandson's playroom.

Well, I would think that the Goose would come inside!

And I have got to start looking in the back of trucks! Gee!

Having a long narrow room myself, I know how hard it is to do anything with it You have done a marvelous job here. I love that it is the scene of family Christmas parties. And the proposal sofa is a crown jewel of the room. I love the photograph! And it only seems like yesterday, doesn't it?

Beautiful sunroom! A very inviting room, I think I might spend most of my time there. The stain glass window also caught my eye. I will be on the hunt for one to replace the one that was taken from our home. Just one more project on the list.

Laurie, your sunroom looks so inviting. In the wintertime I crave sunshine so we've had thoughts of turning our front porch into a sunroom. We use ours to seat the overflow at Christmas, but sometimes guests get mighty chilly on the porch! Love seeing the pic of you on the proposal couch!

Laurie, I know I'd spend lots of time in this sunny room. It looks both comfortable and inviting. It's fun to hear the stories about how the different chairs came to live with you. '-)

You have a very gorgeous sunroom, Laurie! I'm certain my grandma would never leave when she enters that room. Haha! If I have a place like this, my friends and family would know where to find me too. I love sitting on the couch and reading while drinking a cup of tea. Your sunroom is surely a small slice of heaven!

You've got a lot of "stuff" but it looks great in your room, and as soon as I saw that dining table there, I thought "what a fantastic room to have friends over for lunch in". Also, your little green-rimmed plate up high above the window is sitting in my house too - all the way down in Australia (it was bought in Tasmania which is an island state at the bottom of Aussie). Small world!

Hi Laurie. Oooh - your sunroom is so pretty and inviting. It makes me think of a solarium. I want to let you know that your post was one of the top three most viewed at last week's Home{work} Wednesday. Thank you for linking up with us!

That was one of the sweetest blog posts I've ever read. The picture of you being proposed to... Then I laughed as you go to all these places for little errands and come home with furniture. You sound like ME!!! So cute the way you wrote it though you made me laugh. I'll be back to your blog for more - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Your sunroom has a touch of casual fun and color. I think it's because of the printed designs of your accents. Your decorative plate collection added some elegance in the area too, and the green plants balanced everything out. Your sunrrom may look classy, but you can still feel the serenity in the place.

You've played with colors very well, Laurie! It's nice to see how various colors blended perfectly in your sunroom. I can imagine how the colors pop out as the beautiful sunshine enters the space. Hehe! How's your sunroom now? I hope you didn't change any of the features.
