One of my favorite things to do is to take a road trip. You may recall that my sweetheart and I celebrated our wedding anniversary on a recent Tuesday. On that Thursday, he offered to take me to dinner in Memphis for a belated anniversary dinner. He said he needed to go by the hunting camp and take a few measurements anyway, and we could stop back in Memphis for dinner after he took care of that business. (Oh, he is a sweetheart, but just a little sneaky)! After following him all around the hunting camp (in dirt and weeds, with sweat dripping to my waste, and all kinds of bugs attacking me from every direction) for an hour and a half, I realized that I had been bribed to come along, so he would have someone to hold the other end of the measuring tape!) I’m so important! Isn’t he romantic?I did capture a few interesting sights on the way to the camp. At the University of Arkansas experimental farm, I spotted purple leaf cotton. We grow a lot of cotton in my area of the country, but I’ve never seen it with purple leaves. It really was an amazing site to see a field of cotton with purple leaves. Apparently, this cotton is grown in Australia. It’s just like our Australian friends to make cotton growing look so pretty.

If you ever need a professional TMH (tape measure holder), I have passed all tests with flying colors, and I am proud to be the most esteemed of the TMH’s in my household! (beaming with pride!)
We did eventually make it to Beale Street in Memphis.
We were a little confused by this sign on Beale Street, because there were a few motorcycles roaring up and down Beale Street.
We soon found out that Thursday night is “Bike Night” on Beale Street. Since it was the first Wednesday in weeks when the temperature had dropped from triple digits to double digits, EVERY biker in the area had shown up on Beale Street! It was fun to see and it really added to the excitement of the night for us.
You can tell I don’t get to the big city often, since a highlight for me was the neon signs!
But my husband said he wouldn’t fit in the car!
Some day I’ll take you inside the Orpheum Theatre. It is really a beautiful old theatre.
My sweetheart wanted to try a burger joint that we had always heard about. (He’s so romantic – burgers for our anniversary! But it gets even worse!) If you have a weak stomach, don’t read the Dyer’s Story on the menu below. Although the hamburger was delicious, I had to avoid thinking about the story of the restaurant as I was

I have had a VERY busy week, and I’m really behind on visiting my favorite blogs. I am trying to catch up with all of the wonderful posts I’ve missed. Thank you for going on our road trip with me. (Aren’t you glad YOU didn’t have to hold one end of the tape measure for an hour and a half? Aren’t you glad you didn’t have to eat one of those deep fried burgers? It sounds like a fun night (except for the Tape measure part!) As for the grease story, I guess it must be okay if they've been in business that long and the Health Department hasn't shut them down.... still, it's a little disconcerting. How did the burger taste??
I think that hamburgar place was on Food TV because I remember hearing that story about the grease.

Your evening sounds like it was full of adventures!! Beale Street sounds fun...I have heard it is similar to Bourbon St. in New Orleans...it looks that way! You took some great pictures, too. Love that big rooster. I don't know if I would have ordered the burger, I'm not brave that way! But thanks for sharing. ;-D

I have never seen cotton plants with green leaves - kinda pretty. I don't remember the last time I was on Beale St. - to many years ago. Have never eaten at Dyer's. Not sure what grease that old would do to me. It would probably take more than the "purple stuff" to straighten me out, and they would not be able to get a accurate cholesterol reading on me for a year after. :-D

Happy Anniversary! My sister lives in Memphis (Collierville) and we have never done those fun things when I have visited! You know, I think if we actually thought about the food we eat out in restaurants, we might never eat out! I would have joined you in scarfing down one of those burgers! I would of went in that Coyote Ugly saloon to check it out. I've seen it on tv and it looks like fun.

Years ago, my husband invited me to go duck hunting with him. I was so excited to be included, until I realized, when it was time to wade out and retrieve the ducks, that his waders had a leak, and the only pair of good waders that he had brought with him...only fit me..they were way too small for him. I had a great time anyway, but he really did trick me. He knew that his waders had a hole the entire time! Thank you for stopping by my post. To make the floral arrangement in the candle holders, I put a small block of soaked oasis in the candle holders, cut the stems really short, and went for it. I also could have placed one of those old fashioned glass 'frogs' on the holder and worked with that. Those candleholders kind of flair out, like a martini glass shape. Come visit any time. I took pictures of cotton pickers of the 1800's and how they transported them in barges along the MS River and I will post next Sat. We will travel in time, I guess. I loved the Red Rooster, almost as the much as the shiny Hog head i saw at the vendor on Sat Night! I have never seen purple leaf cotton either-Australia! Well, everyone who was in the audience today for Oprah is going to Australia so they can see it there too!
