SHARE A SPACE SATURDAY ON SUNDAY (IF NIKKI CAN DO IT, I CAN TOO!)

WARNING: LONG POST
(And not just because I am posting pictures of my long hallway!)

Before you get all confused....No, it's not Saturday. I didn't get my Share a Space Saturday post done yesterday, so I am posting it on Sunday. (Hey! If Nikki at Blah, Blah, Blah Blog can post "I Wish Wednesday" posts on Thursday, or Friday...or Saturday or ..., I can post my Share A Space Saturday on Sunday, right?) (I do have a pretty good excuse though, which I'll tell you about later. It really isn't that Nikki and I enjoy keeping ya'll confused, right Nikki?).

Today I am sharing my hallway with you. Remember, I grew up in this house. Growing up, I always thought this hallway was kind of dark. When we remodeled the house, I couldn't add any windows to an interior hallway, so I painted it a fairly bright color. When my electrician saw it, he said, "Wow! You don't need to add any lights in this hallway -- but you will need to keep a box of sunglasses at each end of the hallway, so you can put them on before you start down the hall! Okay, so maybe I over-brightened it!

Of course, I couldn't leave all of this space without a place to display something, so I asked my husband to build ledges for photographs on each side of the hallway.

I didn't want to hang the photos on the walls, because I correctly assumed that I'd want to change them occasionally. As it turns out, I change them more frequently than occasionally.

This is the telephone niche in the hallway. My builder wanted to close it up, since he thought it wasn't useful any longer. Not useful, I yelled! That is a shelf where I can put some stuff! DO NOT close it up!

The Asian screen belonged to my Mother-In-Law. We don't know what happened to it, but there was a splotch at the top of it when we inherited it. That's why I have little tassels across the top of it. One tassel conceals the splotch. The other's just keep that one from looking so lonely.

But don't these poor doors to the linen closet look lonely and bare? I'm going to have to do something about that! (I can't stand lonely and bare!)

I cannot wait to show you what I got in the mail Friday.
All of you other bloggers are always getting mail and sharing the unwrapping of your treasures. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and admit to you that this is a reenactment. I knew what was in this box, and there was no way I could stop to take pictures before I opened the box!

See, I put that cute envelope back into the box (just like it was when I opened it).

Look at this darling card, which I'm trying to act like I've just seen for the first time! This card is suitable for framing!

It's my tassel I ordered from Nancy at Home is the Heart's Nesting Place. Just look how pretty it is and how it adds that perfect needed touch to these doors! See that precious little bird on my tassel? I just love him! Nancy does such a beautiful job with these tassels, and I am so proud to have one of them in my home. I'm happy and so are my doors! Do you see them smiling?

Now I'm going to tell you why I didn't get this post done yesterday. We took a little trip to a couple of estate sales. The sales were about an hour from our home. The weatherman was predicting some snow, but that wasn't going to stop me from convincing my sweet husband that we NEEDED to go to these estate sales. While we were shopping estate sales, we didn't realize that, at our home an hour away, the snow had arrived! You have to understand that I grew up here, and I've never seen it snow like this here! We think there are about 12 inches of that white stuff! Our one hour trip home took 3 hours, and by the time I got home, I was too exhausted to think about posting anything on my blog!

I know some of you live in areas where this is normal, but it's not normal here, so please indulge me while I share some pictures of, what we, in NE Arkansas, consider a HUGE snowfall! We're lovin' it (now that we're not trying to drive in it!)

You may recall that we recently had an ice storm here (another very unusual occurrence for this area) The FEMA-contracted trucks just began picking up all of the piles of broken limbs last week. The ones they haven't picked up are now covered with snow! I don't know when they'll be able to start picking up again.

Most of the time, when I receive an award, my first thought is" "I don't deserve this". But Shelia at Note Songs has given me an award that I DO deserve. Hi! My name is Laurie, and I am a Dishaholic! Isn't that the prettiest award? Of course, I think anything with dishes in it is pretty. Shelia, I love this award. Thank you so much! Of course, I don't need to tell anybody to go see Sheila's blog, because I think EVERYBODY in Blogville knows their way to Shelia's wonderful blog!

RULES FOR THIS AWARD:
1. Post on Blog with link back to awarder.2. Award to 5 deserving Dishaholics (they can receive this award a million times and if you think they are a closet dishaholic, give it to them!) Name them for their inspiring taste and display of dishes. The dishes can be displayed anywhere in or around their home.3. Name your favorite set of dishes/pattern that you own.4. Name a set of dishes/pattern that you DO NOT own, but would like to own.5. List a favorite accessory (stems, silver, flatware, etc.)

My favorite set of dishes: Oh, this is hard for a Dishaholic, because I love all of the dishes I have AND all of the dishes everyone else has! But, I guess this is part of working through my addiction, so if I have to name one set for my own good, I'm going to say Apple Blossom by Ridgways, England.

My favorite set of dishes that I would like to own: Oh My! I am failing miserably at this 5 step program for Dishaholics. I hope that this admission will help me in my program: I have coveted almost every set of dishes I have seen on every blog on Tablescape Thursday and on Tablescape Tuesday before that. (Do you think I'm a hopeless case -- is there any help for someone like me?)

My favorite accessory: Now, this may redeem me a little. My favorite accessory is the food! Oh No! Now I've brought up my other addiction for which I need help -- my eating addiction! I know, I know, this post is already too long- that's another story for another day!

All of you plate addicts, please pick up this award. Remember, admitting you have a problem is the first step! (Even if you are like me and don't want to be cured!) My friend, Susie, who doesn't have a blog, should also consider herself awarded the Dishaholic Award!

~~~~~~~~~~
Heidi Pocketbook (isn't that the cutest blogger name?) @ Bargain Hunting in the Corn gave me the Sisterhood Award. This award has been presented to me by other bloggers, and it still feels very special to get it from another blogger. The passing of this award to others just proves how quickly this wonderful blogging sisterhood is growing, and I love that! Heidi, thank you so much for this honor. If you don't already visit Heidi's blog, you should go give her wonderful blog a visit.
~~~~~~~~~

LdyDy Loves Cake at Roses, Cakes and Pearls, gave me this wonderful "Let's Be Friends" Award! When we began blogging, I don't think any of us (especially me) ever thought that we would be meeting so many wonderful friends! It is absolutely amazing that I feel so close to people whom I have never met in person! The description for this award is: “These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.” Also put a link to their blogs and then let them know they have been selected. LdyDy thank you so much for honoring me with your friendship and with this award! All of you probably already visit her blog, but if you don't please go see their fabulous blog. I'd like to pass this award along to Connie at My Thoughts and Creations. Please go visit Connie's lovely blog.

Thanks so much for coming by and for putting up with my long post today (Remember, this was supposed to get posted yesterday. It's hard for me to keep my blog quiet for this long -- it's just like my mouth!)(Believe me, this could have been a lot longer! I edited it before I published!)

Laurie- Congratulations on all your awards!

The hallway looks fantastic- It almost looks like there is a fireplace there with your shelves and the screen from you MIL. Very clever!

Hey that snow belongs to us- send it back! We haven't gotten snow in several weeks and it looks like it is going to be a dry on for us- which is not good in the least!

Love your description of driving in the snow ... you are right ~ after 24 years in Minneapolis, I've seen it all and lived through it. Your snow looks like a picture out of a book. And, as usual, you have thoroughly entertained me with your wit ...

could your husband come to OR and make me some shelves ????

Your hallway is just beautiful. Were the pediments over the doors originally, or did you do that when you remodeled? Nice touch, and they compliment the ledges or the ledges compliment them.

Great snow pictures. I saw a picture of The Red Barn with 12" of snow on Facebook, but I wasn't sure if it was from this year. That's a bunch of snow.

P.S. Oops, I wanted to let you know how inspiring the hallway shelf was to me. I love the flexibility in changing out pictures without adding a million nail holes to the wall. You could swap seasonal family Christmas card photos with other holidays. This is a great way to display them.
The paint color you chose is so creamy. It lends the perfect ambiance.
Sweet Wishes,
Sara

I really like the way you are using your hallway as a picture gallery. The flexibility offered by your shelves is a very smart idea. Makes it much easier to change your mind on your arrangements.

We ended up with mostly slush where I live from this latest front moving toward the East coast. Feel really sorry for the Eastern seaboard for the next few days. It changed over from rain to snow here, so it didn't really accumulate very much. More messy than pretty like yours. This has truly been a strange weather year.

Your tassel is gorgeous. Love the bird. He looks wonderful on the door to your linen closet.

I love the fact that you grew up in your home--how neat is that? Your hallway is not to bright I think its cheery and personal and full of love and memories.

We hit an estate sale also this weekend-I got some neat very old kitchen toys for my grandaughters to play with. I will clean em up and post those..maybe that will be tomorrows post.

Well my friend, I absolutely love what you did in your hallway!!! I love that you put up shelves to display all of your family photos...that is so much prettier than just hanging them!!! What a GRAND idea!!! Love the shelf with the lamps on it too...you're so creative and talented, Laurie!!! If I had a long hall like yours, I would certainly be gettin' busy doing it the same way...just love it!!! And...I love your pretty bird tassel...it's just gorgeous and what a fabulous way to dress up that door!!!

And Laurie...you know we love you ever so much...but you need to alter the picture of the box that gorgeous tassel came in. We can all see where you live and now we're going to be tempted to come over and "borrow" all your wonderful decorations!!! Ya need to delete or blur that photo out lady. I'm pretty sure Shelia can't be trusted with all your beautiful dishes!

Your hallway is fabulous, just like the rest of your beautiful home!

Thanks for the dish award, Laurie. It's the first for me this month!

You are not that far away from me. We heard the lake got the snow. We didn't get any here. I haven't watched the news or anything to see if the lake got much, though.

J and I recalled, we spent the night in your lovely town 2 or 3 years ago. We were coming back from a trip east. Don't remember where...but we thought we'd stop in your town before coming home. Next day when we arrived home, just about three hours after leaving your fair city, we wondered why we were too tired to drive that extra three hours. I guess we thought we were farther away from home, than we were!!

And what a gorgeous house! The hallway is the PERFECT shade of bright! And 12" IS a lot of snow! We get snow here a few times a year usually, but not THAT much snow! So kick back, cozy up and enjoy it!*winks* OH and girl that tassel is adorable!! But maybe it's just me *gulps* and that birdie looks a little like chocolate...so I'm tempted to bite it's head off....sorry I seem to be a little "chocolate" obsessed.....Vanna
