Every Christmas season, I use our Fontanini Nativity set on the mantel.
This year, I decided to keep it simple. Yes, I know there's a lot on this mantel, but for me, this is simple.
It started out more simple than this, but I couldn't stop adding to it.
This Italian nativity set was a lucky bargain I found at an estate sale years ago.
Every year, I love getting each piece out of the box.
An articulated angel stands near the manger,
and angels fill the sky with music.
These angels are also made in Italy, but they aren't the Fontanini brand.
If you've been here before, you've seen this set on the mantel during other Christmas seasons. Thank you for coming to see it this year.

Laurie, I love your nativity on your mantle. I would love to copy you, but our mantle is too shallow. I have to use the top of our cellarette that we bought right after we moved to Richmond in 1968. For years it served as a stereo cabinet. Only recently has it been used for it's intended purpose. Oddly enough, my hubby was born in Mass. where they actually had white Christmases, so when his dad built the stable out of old wine boxes, they added one element that nobody else uses. We drape the stable roof with angel hair to simulate snow. There is also a layer of snow beneath the stable. His parents found some handmade animals at a village craft show in 1951. All the other figures were dime store finds. Our son chipped and broke several figures over time, so we finally replaced the old set with full priced Fontanini pieces. I visited with the old figures this afternoon as I opened the new pieces again. Not as lucky as you to find these the way you did, but we love them just as much. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us.
