NEW YEAR’S DAY DINNER

New Year Decor-Bargain Decorating with Laurie
In my “neck of the woods”, we have a “good luck” meal on New Year’s Day.  It must include black eyed peas and cabbage.  I add sterilized dimes to the black eyed peas.  The legend is that, if you get a dime in your serving, you will have good luck in the new year.  Of course, if you bite down on a dime, you’re not starting the new year with luck!
In case you think I’m one of those efficient people who have already put away their Christmas décor, I’m going to be honest and tell you that I removed the snowmen that hung from these winter wreaths and replaced them with New Year’s paper plates.
Christmas 2014
Christmas still resides right next to those new year’s wreaths.

With the exception of the “good luck meal”, I apparently like to live dangerously on New Year’s Day.

Confetti is offered in a bowl on a side table, and...

Each dinner table even offers confetti.

The napkins are tied with gold tassel ornaments, which guests may take home.

Confetti weighs in the scales in the center of the table.

There are a few different types of tassel ornaments.  (S-h-h-h, don’t tell my guests…I got these ornaments in a box of Christmas décor at an estate sale one time.

There is confetti weighing in the scales on this table too.

Blue and white shades sit on top of wine stems that have battery powered candles in them.

And yes, there are even scales filled with confetti on the children’s table!  Have I lost my mind?

Thanks for welcoming the new year with me.  I don’t plan to post again until 2015!  Hope to see you then.

Laurie, We have black eye peas on New Years too. Instead of cabbage I cook collard greens...only hubby and dad eat them though. Happy New Year and best of luck in 2015,
Hugs,
Sherry

It's official, Laurie! I'm coming to your house if you give out ornaments! A girl after my own magpie heart.

Love the table! Love it! Love it! Love it!

And the noisemakers are so cute. I, however, would be scared to hand out confetti in that gorgeous cup. I would put it on a high shelf and guard it jealously. ;-)

I had to laugh about the dime being sort of a backhanded prize if you bit into it. What if you SWALLOWED IT??? You know there are folks who gobble food down whole. And I am married to a litigator so my mind immediately goes THERE. LOL But far be it from me to rain on a fun tradition. I mean, people bake babies into King's Cake, and I have gotten the baby before. A dime is a lot better than a plastic baby. A dime you can spend for more goodies. ;-)

Love to you and a very Happy New Year filled with blessings...

I love your blue and white plates. They look so fresh to my eyes after seeing so much red, green, and gold over the last few weeks. The scale centerpiece looks awesome too, I am really getting really hungry for some black eyed peas after reading this.
