MY FAVORITE SECRETARY

Did you think I was going to tell you which is my favorite among my team of secretaries, who do all of my typing, my blog postings, my correspondence, etc., for me?  Wouldn’t that be nice?
No, I’m not talking about a person who is a secretary.  I’m talking about the piece of furniture kind of secretary.  Early in our marriage, we purchased the secretary in our bedroom, and it remains a favorite of mine.  I love that the glass front is so open, and I love the shape of the wood trim on the glass.

The chair I use with it was a $5.00 purchase at a flea market a lot of years ago.  The needlepoint seat cover was on it when I bought it, and so were all of the dings, chips and scratches in the wood.  You can see that I haven’t done anything to it.  I like the shabby look of it.  (That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it.)

I purchased the planters on top of the cabinet for $10.00 each at an auction.  I didn’t know until I got them home that they depicted nude people.  I won’t show a close up, since this is a G-rated blog!  Don’t you love the way my faux plants are “growing” with a separation in the middle?

Y’all know I love black and white toile.  Well, if you didn’t, you do now.  All of my accessories on the little pull-out desk are proof of that.

I’m sorry I don’t remember the name of the Etsy where I purchased this pretty tassel.  It’s been three or four years, and I don’t have time to go back and look it up right now.  If I purchased it from you, please notify me, and I’ll add the information to my post.

If you saw my post about our bedroom chandelier, you may remember that I like hanging pearls in our bedroom.  The faux pearls hanging from the champagne glasses (which we used at our wedding) were in my wedding bouquet.

Years ago, before blogging, I painted the inside of this piece a light blue.  It made the contents show up so much better.  Most of the figurines belonged to my mother and my grandmother.  I love the way the center shelf is cut out, so that a tall object can be placed on top of the little drawer box.

Isn’t this drawing of a baby just precious?  This is my mystery baby.  This drawing was stuck inside a book I found after my mother died.  I don’t know if it was a family member, or the child of a friend, or if it was just a drawing she liked and kept in the book.

That little musical bride was a gift from my sister-in-law when my sweetheart and I became engaged.  Surrounding it, are some of my great aunt’s painted china pieces.  Behind the plates, you may be able to see my collection of Bobbsey Twin books.  Most of you probably don’t remember the Bobbsey Twins.  I loved those books.

A different great aunt painted this tea cup.

If you saw my previous bedroom post, you will remember that I’ve recently added a few touches of red to our bedroom.  This red-bordered plate is my red addition inside this secretary.  I paid $12.00 for it at an estate sale.  It is marked Copeland Spode England.

In my recent bedroom post, I  shared some of my framed silhouettes on the mantel in this room.  I’ve also added a silhouette, matted in red, to a little table in the bedroom.   Years ago, I decoupaged everything in sight, including that box under the picture.

Can you spot a very tiny bit of red on this tabletop?

See that red border around the picture on this coaster I decoupaged?
