VASE, CLOCHE, OR BOTH

Vase cloche or both

I love the illustrations in vintage Children's books. My small collection includes some that belonged to my mother, some that belonged to me and my sister, and some I've bought at estate or garage sales.

Vase from estate sale

I found this large vase at an estate sale. This thing is heavy. When I found it, I had just had surgery. I had to tell one of the salesmen I'd had surgery and couldn't lift it to see the price taped to the bottom.

When he picked it up, this is what I saw.

As is vase

I asked what was damaged and he showed me this chip on the rim. As I was examining it, he said, I'll give it to you for $3, and I'll carry it to the car for you. Of course, I couldn't pass up a deal like that.

vase used as cloche

Recently, I wanted to display books under a cloche. I didn't have a large enough cloche , so I turned the vase upside down and used it for my cloche.

Museum wax

Since I thought I might want to use it as a vase some day, I used museum wax to adhere a vintage doorknob to the top.

Vase now cloche

If I decide to use it for flowers, I can easily remove the doorknob.

Vintage Mother Goose under Cloche

I found The Adventures of Young Mother Goose at an estate sale.

Vintage children's books

My sister and I had Mother Goose's Rhymes read to us.

Vintage children's books

The Jolly Jump-Ups, A Child's Garden Of Verses was a gift to my sister and me.

vintage Humpty Dumpty Book

Humpty Dumpty was our mother's childhood book.

I think I'll get a lot of use out of that three dollar purchase.

Thanks for reading BDwL.

PS:  Some of you missed my post about my health situation (here) and have asked about it. I'm doing great and counting my blessings. Thank you for your prayers and concern.

Laurie I love this idea. My maiden name is Milne so anytime I see a book by A.A. Milne I buy them. I will have to do this in the family room. Thanks for the idea. I am so glad things are going so well for you. I remember you in my prayers.

What a find! I love it. You were wise not to lift it.
It looks cute with the books

Clever idea for the cloche. You are always thinking, Laurie. Love all the great children's books you show. I recently found some Beatrix Potter books from the early 1900s. Was so excited!
