TIME FOR SCHOOL CELEBRATION

You may recall that every year I have a "Back to School" dinner celebration for my school-aged grandchildren.

The mantel décor represents the teacher's desk. I know, teacher's don't have things like this on their desks anymore, but these are the things I remember from my school days. Let's just say I'm educating my grandchildren about the old days.

No, I'm not telling them that I walked for miles in the snow to get to school. They know it doesn't snow much in Arkansas. The teacher has my grandmother's watch in a dome and my grandfather's watch propped against a book. She's also using the stapler that my daddy had on his work desk all of his life.

Nobody ever touches the teacher's pencil box. Did you notice the "Dick and Jane" books? I learned to read from those.

The teacher keeps pencils in a Ball jar, and each day, there is an apple she receives the teacher's pet.

This teacher's students will be learning to tell time on a "real" clock. (Maybe they don't even teach that anymore.)

I guess I should be having a back to school celebration for their mothers, since they are probably the ones who are celebrating the children's return to school. It's been a long, hot summer.
.
Do you have children or grandchildren returning to school or starting school? I wish all of them a good school year. I'm glad you came by today.

Adorable! I remember the excitement of going back to school, the new school supplies, clothes and a pair of shoes. The excitement wore off after the first day, lol

Oh Laurie. I did so much love your mantle. Thanks for coming over and joining the party! The linky is up all week and through the Fall.
With one week dedicated to Thanksgiving. And then Thanksgiving afternoon it'll change to Christmas. Please come on by and link all your Fall posts. Be Blessed. Sherry

I love your back-to-school tradition with your grandkids. I learned from Dick, Jane, and Sally too. And I have the same stapler that my dad had on his desk all his life. It's funny that some companies have come out with new versions of it.

This is a wonderful vignette, Laurie! Isn't it amazing how times have changed from our era? I loved those Dick and Jane books in first grade...how cool you have some copies! My oldest grandchild goes to first grade next week....big milestone for him and us!

Laurie, I have my uncle's spelling tablet that would also look great somewhere in this collection of wonderful things.
