SPRING MANTEL WITH QUIMPER

SPRING MANTEL 10

I always love the charm of French Quimperware, and in the Spring, I love it's bright floral patterns even more.  That's why our mantel is decorated with Quimper now.

SPRING MANTEL 1

I fell in love with Quimper when I saw a display of it in a painted blue and yellow hutch in one of the first editions of Traditional Home magazine.

SPRING MANTEL 2

I began to look for it at estate sales and in flea markets and antique stores.  At the time, I thought all Quimper pieces depicted the Breton (male) figure or the Bretonne (female) figure.

SPRING MANTEL 3

That was before I had access to the wealth of information on the internet.  I would never have checked the back of this Quimper plate with the basket of flowers in the center.

SPRING MANTEL 4

And, although I would have thought it was charming, I wouldn't have thought to check the back of this deep yellow plate with the basket of flowers.  I often how many Quimper bargains I missed before I knew that there were patterns that didn't depict the Breton and Bretonne.

SPRING MANTEL 5

However, my very smart friend, Charlie Ann, found this large Quimper floral plate at a junk store, and she had the good sense to check the back of it, and grabbed the deal of the century as a gift for me!

SPRING MANTEL 6

I probably would have purchased this cute Brenton and Bretonne salt and pepper set even if I hadn't checked the bottom to see that they were Quimper.  I purchased these from my friend, Sarah at Hyacinths for the Soul.

SPRING MANTEL 8

It would never have occurred to me that this frog might be a Quimper piece, but it is.

SPRING MANTEL 7

And, when I purchased this dog at auction, I didn't even think of checking him for a Quimper stamp. Nobody bid on him, so I got him for a very low price.  I later learned that he is a Quimper knife rest.

I never tire of my Quimper collection, and although I have more than enough, I still check for reasonably priced Quimper everywhere I go.  I have two online sites that I often to check for sales (Country French Pottery and The Quimper Collection).  I am not being compensated by either of these sites.

I hope you enjoyed seeing part of my Quimper obsession collection.  Thanks for stopping by.
This post is partying with Met Monday at Between Naps on the Porch, Inspire Me Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life, Tweak it Tuesday at Cozy Little House, and You’re Gonna Love It Tuesday at Kathe with an E.

HI Laurie, I love your gorgeous collection. It does look so springy and colorful for the new season. I can see these pieces easily mixed with blue and white toile, willow or transferware.
I will be looking for Quimper now since I see you collect it.
The shakers are so sweet.
Have a great week.
Hugs, CM
