An amazing thing happened at my house last week. My sweetheart constantly asks why I need so many dishes. I usually reply that I don’t need them, and I will soon be getting rid of some of them. (That’s been my reply for about 20 years!) He had to go to a meeting out of town last week. He came home with bags and bags of dishes!
The dinner plates I’m using in this scape came in three different colors, and when my sweetheart went to the meeting, he returned with 8 of each color of the dinner plate; 8 of each color of the salad plate; and four bowls in the green (they had sold the bowls in the other colors)! My shock was apparent, as he explained that he’d gone to Dillard’s Department Store and found the dinner plates for $1.00 each; the salad plates for 50 cents each, and he couldn’t remember how much the bowls were, but he knew I wouldn’t want him to pass up dishes at those prices!
I’m still in shock, and I’m still looking for a place to store these dishes. Did you notice something kind of funny in the previous photo that includes the bowl? I got four napkin rings out to use in this scape. When I began putting them on the napkins, I could only find three of them, so I had to go get another one out. I didn’t realize until I saw these pictures that the other napkin ring is on the table, peeking out from under the napkin!
The pattern of these dishes (which I now own in green, blue, and lavender) is Snowflake and the maker is Noble Excellence. The dinner plates don’t have snowflakes on them, so I can use them any time. I used my white, metal chargers, because they kind of remind me of a snowflake.
The snowmen stems were a gift from my sister for Christmas about five years ago.
I have had these snowflake place card holders for too long to remember where I got them. I have to turn the place card lengthwise, or the name on the card will be covered by the holder. I put the soup spoon at the top of the place setting. The flatware I’m using is Old Master by Towle.
We seldom have enough snow in Arkansas to build a snowman, so if we’re dreaming of snow, I set a snow-themed table. (I know, some of you who have a LOT of snow are wondering why anyone would ever dream of having snow. You know how the grass is always greener someplace else? Well, the snow is always whiter.)
I’m not using this teapot and mug to serve. I just plopped him on the table for décor.
This one is a breakfast bowl, plate and mug, which is also here for decoration.
We’ll have to be cautious when we use the salt and pepper, unless we don’t mind “snow” in our food.
Now, I have to go see if I can find a place to put all of these dishes. This may take awhile. I’m glad you came by today. laurie

Laurie, this is a wonderful story. I sometimes marvel at how our husbands can surprise us. ;-)
Glad he didn't pass up those bargains. Your table is adorable. Need to get busy and set another snow themed table here.
How funny! I was just in Dillard's today and saw those plates, but made the mistake of assuming they were too expensive. Duh…should have checked the bottom. They are too cute for winter! Lucky you! He's finally got it! ;o)
What a sweet surprise! Your table is adorable. I'm going to write down your comment about "the snow is always whiter"!

Wow I can't imagine my husband ever doing that! That's really sweet! We don't have a Dilllards so all I can do is order on line. They sure do offer some good markdowns!
Your table is cute and I like your snowmen! Speaking of snow- we got 8" last night!
Wow, how many Good Husband Points did you award him for THAT amazing gift?? You have "trained" him well! This table is so appealing -- I love all your snowman elements. Can't wait to see the other colors of dishes, too!
Your sweetie is a real sweetie! Awesome job, you are right to want some snow, I would miss it terribly if we didn't have any! ;) Glad you found that napkin ring, too funny! xo
That is a smart man!! He loves you! You deserve it! Lavender has me drooling!!
Hi Laurie, You have a gem of a guy!! I just love this table and that teapot is darling. Enjoy the snow and your gorgeous home. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the colors of dishes.

Such a cute table! I might just use your idea for mine. Perfect for January. I too have the dish crazies. Too many dishes and for some reason I still look at them every time I shop. Thanks for sharing!
Three cheers for your husband! Tell him we are proud of him and all going to tell our husbands about his expert shopping skills! Love the dishes and the snowmen!
I love your table, it looks so cute. What a sweet hubby you have!!

Your husband is such a keeper! I can't believe he found such a wonderful deal on those, and I'm so glad he brought them home. The table just plain made me smile. I love snowmen anyway, but there is something about them in January that I love just a little bit more. It might be that they are the only whimsy that seems to linger after Christmas.
I would be shocked if my husband came home with dishes too!!!You lucky girl! Lots of hugs & kisses for him! lol I collect snowmen so your table is perfect for me! I love the snowflake plates and all the cute snowmen. Your table is a very happy table. Thank you for sharing.
Blessings My Friend,
What a great winter table, Laurie! Makes me smile...
Like the other commenters, I am pretty sure my husband will NEVER come home with a bag of dishes, no matter how cheap. For you, however, it was the making of a great tablescape with all the cute snowmen. I actually have one more snow setting that I might do...
Thanks for visiting with me today!
Laurie, this is the cutest table and I love the dishes! I agree, no one has brought me a bag of dishes and especially not a man! He is a keeper for sure! Hugs, Linda
Laurie, tell your husband that I am giving him the "Husband of the Year Award!" No wonder you two have been married this long-he is one considerate guy! Love your snow tablescape. I packed up all my snowmen with the Christmas decorations even though I'm wishing for some snow here in SC!
I love that your husband bought the dishes for you...at least he knows what you like! You can use them all winter, too. I think I would call him a keeper, Laurie! Nice snowman collection.
Have a great week.
That would have just made my day, and they are such nice dishes too! What fun! Love all your snowmen! The white lacey charger is perfect for these dishes. I love those elegant place card holders. Joni
Oh, how sweet Laurie!!!! Love the table but the sentiment behind it is what is the best!!!
So sorry we didn't get to meet up. I hope there will be a next time.

It makes my heart smile that your husband didn't want you to miss out. What a sweetheart! The snowflake design is wonderful.
What a sweet guy! I love that he not only bought you dishes, but so many!! You have trained him well!! I love your snowscape and all your darling snowmen, especially the crazy teapot and bowl/mug!
Jenna
I adore these plates and always your settings. I have way too many dishes too and really no one to share them with so here they stay. I cannot my husband ever coming home with dishes, no matter if they were giving them away. I have not seen charges like yours with the cut out design. As to snow, too much here, too cold of a winter and so we cannot get away to flee south. The dishes are delightful.
Laurie how did you train your husband to go to a department store and go shopping for you on his own? my hubby wouldn't have a clue the table is adorable as always.Susie
What a great surprise! Your new dishes are so fun and your sweetheart is a real sweetie!! Lovely table!
