PREPARING FOR THE 4TH

We have two of these iron rocking chairs in our yard, and they are a favorite sitting spot.  For the last couple of years, I have used two tie-on seat pillows (one on the back and one on the seat) on each of them, but those never really worked right, and all of the tie-on strings finally tore.

When we were cleaning out the garage, I found these floral cushions that I had used on the chairs several summers ago.  They were in pretty good shape, but the floral pattern didn’t go with anything else we have outside.  I put the two cushions in the give away/trash pile.

It’s not the first time (and I’m afraid it won’t be the last time) I have gotten something out of our trash pile.  But, I had a good reason this time.  I had priced cushions for these chairs and decided that I was going to wait until the cushions go on sale.  But, what was I going to do about these chairs in the meantime?

That’s when “Hometalk” stepped in.  I was browsing through all of the great ideas on Hometalk when I spotted Shabby Paints’ posting of her painted chair cushions.  What did I have to lose, but a little of my time?  I already had paint, and I could drag those cushions out of the trash pile and paint them.

I followed the directions on the Shabby Paint site, and I used A.S. chalk paint in Old Violet.

I was already painting a piece of furniture with this paint.  You may already know that I am not a patient person (that’s an understatement).  I can’t stand to wait to see the results of a project.  I think my impatience also makes me a sloppy painter.  When I’m finished painting, you would think I had been painting myself instead of furniture.

So, since my hands, arms, and legs were already painted Old Violet from my furniture painting (come back on Tuesday to see that project), I took my paint brush outside, and painted those old floral cushions.  I think they are going to work out great until I can find some on sale.

While I have my camera in the back yard, I’m going to show you another one of my purchases from the auction I recently posted about.  I bet nobody who read that post thought I would purchase one of those “Red Goose” shoe displays.  I remember buying Red Goose shoes, and this shoe display brought back some great memories.

Those are my gardening shoes that I’m storing on it.  That’s why those shoes are so nasty looking.  I realized after posting this picture that I should have rinsed the garden debris from the inside of the shoes before taking a picture to share on my blog.

I’ll end this little post with the chalkboard that lives in our back entryway.  I’m getting ready for our 4th of July celebration.  Thanks for visiting.  laurie

I’m linking this post to Seasonal Sundays at The Tablescaper.

Happy Birthday America, I love you. Painting cushions is something I haven't tried yet; let us know how you like the results in a couple of months.

Paint the fabric! What a clever idea, Laurie. Great solution for a quick fix.

I haven't heard of chalk paint before. Is it strictly for fabric?
I am curious how these cushions turn out.
My d.i.l. and I were pricing cushions for the 2 chairs we have in the courtyard and they are so pricey. Cost more than the chairs. lol.

That's a great transformation! You are right those cushions are so expensive. I've even considered getting a whole new patio set in the past because of how much I'd have to put out for the cushions!
