BUTTERFLIES ARE STILL FLITTING AROUND IN MY BRAIN!

That’s better than “Bats in the Belfry”, right?

This past weekend, we celebrated the last of our April family birthdays. Our daughter and our son requested a Mexican dinner for their combined birthday celebrations.

I served Taco Soup in the individual casseroles I bought at Trees, Trends and More last year.

Following the soup, we ate tacos, tostados, refried beans and Mexican rice. (dinner plates: Susan Williams-Ellis Botanic Garden; flatware: William Rogers “Eternally Yours”)

The centerpiece butterfly is an outdoor solar decoration. I brought him inside and stuck a votive candle between his wings. (He didn’t seem to mind).

The eyelet edge on these napkins reminded me of butterfly wings. (When I was putting them in the washer, I realized that the look of butterfly wings would have been enhanced if I had put a pastel napkin under this one).

Butterfly demitasse cups served as salt cellars at each place setting.

I put paper nut cups inside these trinket boxes to use them for individual shredded cheese servers.

I don’t know how all of you take such good photos of candlelit tables. It doesn’t work with my camera.

A couple of people have asked how to make your photo look like a box (as in my header and my button for Favorite Things Saturday). I use Photoscape for everything I do to my photos. I previously posted about making mosaics on Photoscape here. Photoscape is a free program that you can download on your computer (unless you have a MAC).

box -salt

While in the “Edit” mode of Photoscape, there is a section entitled “Filters”. When you click on that, there is a whole list of effects you can use for your photos. One is entitled “Make A Box”. If you click on it, the photo you’ve chosen magically becomes a box.

I am linking this post to these fun parties (click on the button to go to the host blog):

There will be a linkup for Favorite Things here on Friday. Hope you’ll come join us. Thank you so much for your visit to my little blog. laurie

Og, your table looks so pretty. I love the little tureens. And the dishes are so lovely. What a cute and clever idea to use the trinket boxes with paper liners for shredded cheese! I am gonna steal that idea!

I love the little covered tureens! The napkins are so pretty, and they do look like butterflies, probably Monarchs if you have a few Margaritas!
Great table, Laurie, and I am sure another wonderful fun time at your house!

Love it all Laurie! We are eating Mexican tonight and I think it's one of my all time favorites! The butterflies are great. What fun to have those individual casseroles!

This one's a favorite. I love butterflies and you have them flitting all over this table! I could not possibly pick a favorite element, but those napkin rings would be strong contenders.

I hate posts like this! In the very beginning, there is something soooo cool that I must comment on but as I read on,......Oooo there's another thing and by the time I get to the end of the post, I am dizzy with delight at all wonderful things I've just seen. No way could I mention them all in one comment. Thanks for sharing.

This is a beautiful table Laurie.

Thanks so much for stopping by. We are far away from the rivers. The nearest is the Cuivre, about 4 miles. We are 14 miles from the Mississippi. How are you doing?

Another pretty table for the family celebrations. The butterfly theme is a perfect choice for spring birthdays. Cute individual tureens, Laurie, and a clever idea to use the demitasse cups as individual salts. Your idea of pairing colorful napkin with the white linen napkins would definitely add dimension with those delicate lace designs.
The new header looks great! Thanks for sharing the directions for creating a box. I use Picasa. I'm going to see if they offer this tool.
See you tomorrow for Favorite Things. ~ Sarah

Thanks for sharing the info about photoscape. I made notes to check into it long ago, but just never got around to getting it done.
Have a great day.

Laurie, those colorful tureens are just wonderful and versatile! What a fun table with the butterflies as your inspiration. I love that metal butterfly as the centerpiece. :-)
I am preparing an authentic New Mexico meal for guests next week. Quite a bit different from Tex-Mex - I use dried red chile pods from Hatch, NM and steak or roast beef for the chile gravy to make enchiladas. Oh yum, I am drooling already! I use every pot and pan in the kitchen for this dinner menu! LOL

Thanks for information about your header. Your family are lucky to have such a great dinner, Wish I was there lol

Laurie, put me on the list to inherit the tureens. I love finding neat things that look as good as they are practical. A second napkin might have been nice, but, hey, you can only use one at a time!
