Oh, the weather outside is frightful!
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
If we are dining on the floor, without a table, is the post still eligible for Tablescape Thursday?
I know Marty has told us that our posts for Table Top Tuesday do not have to be on top of a table. (I do think the implication was that there would be a vignette that was raised off of the floor in some manner!) So, is this post okay for Table Top Tuesday? (I really think Table Top Tuesday is supposed to be for vignettes, so I’m reeealy stretching the meaning of TTT by submitting this on-the-floor dinner scape to Marty’s weekly party!)My sister-in-law, Brenda, found this great “Ducks Unlimited” picnic basket at a re-sale store. It doesn’t look like it was ever used. She gave it to the “boys” in my family to take to their hunting camp.
There was no way I was going to allow a bunch of guys to run off with this treasure before I got a chance to use it! Since it wasn’t exactly picnic weather, we had our soup and sandwich picnic on the floor, in front of the fireplace. Just pretend that these are all over-head shots, and I just didn’t take any photos revealing the table legs under the scape/top (they really are overhead shots, because I didn’t lay on the floor to get any of these photos!)
The stems, the plates, the flatware, the plaid napkins, and the plaid covering on the floor were all inside the picnic basket.
The individual soup tureens were from the Williams Sonoma outlet last year.
I purchased the napkin rings at an estate sale several years ago.
The soup tureen and the plate under it were from different estate sales, and the carved duck was a vacation purchase years ago.
So….if there is no table under it, is it a tablescape? If it’s on the floor, is it a table top? (And is a tablescape a vignette? - Nope, I know I’m pushing my luck with that one! I’ll try anything for the chance to participate in a party!)
I’m pretty sure it’s okay to link this post to Junkin Finds at A La Carte, since everything I used came from a re-sale store or from an estate sale or outlet store. But, I may be cheating by linking this post to Table Top Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life and Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch. I know that Marty and Susan are too sweet to kick me out of their parties, so I’m going to go ahead and crash their parties with a “tableless” post [maybe they won’t notice there isn’t a table, or anything but the floor, under my scape]! I think it’s okay to link this post to Seasonal Sundays at The Tablescaper, since it is a winter picnic.
I’d really appreciate it if you wouldn’t tattle on me. I just can’t help myself. I’m a party gal, and I wanna join the parties. Let’s just keep it our little secret that I am linking a “tableless” post. Thanks so much! (By the way, it only took me and my sweetheart about 10 minutes to get up off the floor after dinner – we’re so proud of ourselves!) laurie

Oh, Laurie...you are such a hoot! You always make me laugh, always breaking the rules {just a little bit}!! The basket is very cool though and I LOVE those mini soup tureens. The food looks pretty good, too! :-)
XO,
Jane
Floor Top Tuesday... hmmm works for me! Especially when it looks as fabulous as yours! Love that Duck picnic set. The basket hardware is really nice! I think Marty will let you slide on this one!! Lol! Hugs!
Laurie,
That is wonderful! And charming and clever and a great deal too!
I think all of our hostesses will love it!
I love a party too and I bet your parties are the best!
Hugs,
Cindy
Laurie, you are making me wish I live there! What a fun "table-less scape"! I love an indoor picnic! I gotta do one soon. We actually had a wienie and mallow roast in the fireplace in the FR, but the camera was too far away! and I was too cold. lol
Laurie, you are totally amazing. I would never dream of a picnic by the fire, but this is totally incredible. You have the most wonderful pieces for a picnic, the basket, dishes the little benches and of course the throw. Your little tureens are unreal also. Well can you tell I love it all. Amazing. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
I think this is so cute you will be forgiven for any rules you might break! I love that picnic basket and it would not be going off with any guys in my house that is fr sure! Love the picnic and the food looks yummy! Hey I think 10 minutes to get up is Olympic speed record for sure! I would need major help to get up! Funny girl. Thanks for joining JFF! hugs, Linda
Laurie,
Your picnic is adorable! I love the idea and the picnic basket is wonderful! I'd hide it from the guys. Couldn't let that one get away!
I absolutely love the individual soup tureens. And if The Hunter knew you had that Ducks Unlimited basket,..
Oh Laurie everything is just DUCKY!! (Pun intended *winks*) I think your "floorscape qualifies anywhere it wants to! It's just wonderful! I didn't know that it didn't need to be a tablescape over at Marty's. Thanks for letting me know. Now maybe I can join up! Yippee! Vanna
Oh, Laurie what a wonderful idea! A picnic in front of the fireplace! Love the basket! The soup tureens, all is so wonderful, I would love to have a seat here!
Lovin' your beautiful "firescape" Laurie! That basket is way too fun to send off with the guys, love what you did with it! Just wish you wouldn't use that four letter "s" word... gives me chills:@)
Love your Valentine's Day decorations. And your picnic looks so lovely with the snow outside and the warm fire. You always inspire.
Karen
Love it! We have Ducks Unlimited here too, I guess they are all over.
Love your picnic. SUCH CUTE PLATES AND FLATWARE TOO!
It is 5 deg here, just absurd!!
Brilliant! I love this idea! You are such a delight!
I would have fought a 300lb. man for those goodies! I love what you have done. I so wish I had a fireplace. I would be eating in front of it every night!
Lacy
Oh Laurie -- I love your tableless tabletop! Only you! What a great basket too!
I know I'm not the host of either of those parties, but if I were, I would still love your fireside picnic!! Actually I don't think anyone could possibly think that the missing "table" is in anyway, shape, or form an important element here! You've got table linen, utensils, dishes, whimsey, ambiance, and light from an actual fire....who needs a table?
Love the picnic in front of the fire.
Only 10 mins. ?!?! If I got done on the floor to eat and take pictures, y'all may not hear from me for a very long time. That commercial with the words "I can't get up" words should be taken more seriously. :-D
Great post!
Enjoy your week.
Glenda
Laurie I think this fits perfectly for TableTop Tuesday! MIne on the other hand is a long stretch for a vignette but like you I wanted to join the party! I am going to have to do a picnic in front of the fire somenight- that looks like so much fun.

It looks wonderful to me. I did one once on Dog dishes so I know they don't get mad. They just want us all to have fun. I know I had fun visiting you today.
Wonderful as always Laurie!
All I know is that is a fabulous find and I would keep it and not let the men have it at all!
Laurie, I love the idea of a picnic in front of the fireplace. I think you may have started a new trend.
Guess the basket and its contents will eventually get to the hunting camp, but why not enjoy it while it's with you. :-)

Very... Nicee... Blog.. I really appreciate it... Thanks..:-)
This is such a cute idea Laurie! Love that picnic basket, what a great find. And those individual soup tureens are wonderful! Your setting looks so warm and inviting. I don't think anyone will mind that you broke a few rules. Everyone loves a rebel :) Kat
What fun this is....I love it!!! This reminds me of our picnic on the hearth where we roast hot-dogs and marshmallows. My kids are grown and still love to do this. Of course with eight grandkiddos my 'settin' is not so charming!!! Yours is smiply beautiful sweetie!
God bless ya and have a fantastic day sweetie!!!
Hi Laurie! Ha ha! You're a hoot! I love it! Floor displays work, yes they do! :)
Now what a wonderful basket filled with duckie goodness! What a great find!

Adorable indoor picnic!
Laurie, I love your out-of-the-box thinking! Your fireside picnic looks delightful, and I know your sweet husband was delighted to join you on the floor! Love that plaid!
CRACKIN' ME UP!!! I got the worst case of the giggles reading about joining the parties. Oh, how I wish I had more courage to join more of them. I just sit with my nose pressed to the window instead. Good grief.
I LOVE this. My husband would think it was nice, too. I'm almost positive that he would grin WITH me and not AT me if he showed up on Friday night to this surprise.
I want to put a picture of it on my blog. I hope that's OK. Let me know if not. I've already shouted it out without a picture.
It looks great to me! All warm and cozy on a winter's evening.
What a cute post you have done. What a great idea for eating in front of the fireplace. Love all your decorations.
This is FABULOUS! I love it! I would feel like a little kid on a picnic! Maybe that's what I'll request for my next birthday! How cool is that! ♥
Wow! What a gorgeous spread. Everything is just perfect and I can honestly say it has left me speechless.
I love the beautiful picnic basket with all the matching goodies. What a great tableless top-scape
Patricia :o)
Great scape.. floor or table no matter. It's wonderful. The picnic basket is a real treasure. Lovely and so inviting.
What a cool picnic basket and I love all the plaid linens in it. How awesome to picnic inside the house. You are the only one who would be creative enough to think of that. Yes, Laurie, that sure qualifies for a tabletop or tablescape in my book since I do an under the table tabletop, I guess that would be a floor top too.....Christine
I loved this so much that I mentioned you on my post this morning! Hugs! ♥
Oh I'm so in the mood for a picnic..green grass, blue sky, warm summer breeze, good food and a soft cotton picnic blanket! But, if I cant have that, your picnic will do just fine...
~Shirley
Well I just love this! Everything is just perfect for an indoor picnic! Love the tureens and the awesome baskets filled with fun dining items!
What a wonderful idea! I love the idea of having a picnic in front of the fire on a snowy evening....
Hugs,
Penny
Laurie! That is beyond adorable! I love this. It's SO cute! I don't blame you for not letting them run off with it. Can you kinda sorta hide it??? LOL!
Great 'scape. I'll be right over to have soup with you!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Laurie, you can call it a tablescape if you would like, it doesn't matter to me...cute idea to sit in front of the fire. I really like those plates and that basket is pretty darned cool.
I love it all!!
Love,
Susan and Bentley
xxoo
Too cute! What a great post! I love your tableless 'scape! Love the basket and I would have a hard time letting my boys have it!
~ Tracy
Very clever, dearie! Anything in front of the fireplace is fine by me, and I totally relate to the getting up part!
No, don't let them men take this, it is way too gorgeous and they won't care for it the way it should be cared for. What a treasure and all the little ducks on the handles and glassware, wow. I love a picnic or dinner in front of the fireplace, so beautiful and this basket just takes it over the top!
Yes, it does take a little more time to get up but it still is fun as long as we can do it!!!!
Hi Laurie...
Girlfriend, you just crack me up! Here it is 1:30 in the morning and I'm just a giggling! Hoping not to wake up Russell! Hehe! Well dear friend, I really do think you are the clever one...and I definitely think that your fabulous picnic is just perfect to Table Top Tuesday and Tablescape Thursday! This really is the coolest idea for sharing a meal..in the middle of winter...that I have heard of! It makes me want to spread a blanket out on my floor and pack the picnic basket! Hmmm...come to think of it...that would make a really sweet Valentine's day celebration! wink! Laurie, I just love this "Ducks Unlimited" picnic basket! Aren't the plates and flatware...ohhh, and the glasses...just fabulous? And I love the pretty plaid napkins and blanket! Girlfriend, will your fellows really enjoy and appreciate this pretty basket? I have to agree with Jacqueline's comment (just above mine)...I think you should keep it! Hehe!
Well sweet friend, I thoroughly enjoyed your fabulous and innovative tabletop tablescape this week! You always make my heart smile, Darlin'! It has been awhile since I have been by to visit. I hope that my note finds you and your family all doing well!
Love ya,
Chari
What a GREAT idea! My kids would absolutely love this as they are really missing the outdoors lately. As for the picnic basket, there is NO way that I would let my husband loose with that - he would dump the contents and turn it into an amo box in no time. Boys.
Sweet Mister would not make it out the door with that wonderful picnic basket. After supper on the floor, it would end up as a centerpiece for one of my tablescapes. Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay
So much fun! what a great tablescape!

Laurie~ I think an indoor picnic in front of the fireplace can be just as romantic as an outdoor setting.
This may be utilize for Valentines day too. It beats heading out in the cold foraging for a V-day restaurant dinner.
Sweet wishes,
Sara
