PLEASE LIE TO ME!

I’ve always said that I would nevah evah order a piece of furniture from an on-line store.  I go to sites and look at furniture, and I think “nope, I’ve got to be able to see the color in person and touch the wood and/or the upholstery”.  I admire a furniture piece and say to myself… “People do it all of the time, but I don’t know how they do it.  It’s just too scary.”

If I order a shirt, and I don’t like it when it gets here, I can just send it back, but I can’t imagine the hassle of sending back a sofa or an upholstered chair.  Nope, not me – I’m just not gonna be doing that!

I’m sure you can tell where this is going.  I must just enjoy eating my words.  I seem to do it frequently (at least there are no calories).

About a month ago, I ordered a piece of furniture on line!  Yep!  I did it.  From the time I pushed that “commit to pay” button until today, I have been a nervous wreck about it.  I was so anxious for it to arrive, AND I dreaded it’s arrival!  This morning, it arrived, and although I am still getting accustomed to the change, I think I’m going to love it.

On one end of my new piece of furniture, I have grouped some of my very inexpensive faux mercury glass candle holders on a mirrored tray.

On the opposite end, I placed a gold Christmas tree on top of a mirrored box, along with another inexpensive faux mercury glass candle holder and an angel.

I have placed the Holy Family in the center.

Do y’all get those email flyers from One Kings Lane?  Yep, that’s the one with reduced prices on all of those expensive items from designers and high-end merchants.  Normally, when I open the email from them, everything is either sold out or on hold.  Occasionally, there is some little something still available, and occasionally, I can afford the reduced price, but I have learned that if I really want to order something, I better buy it quickly, because it will soon be sold out.  I’m not good with pressured decision-making, especially if it involves spending a lot of money.  HOWEVAH, a month ago, I was shocked to find myself VERY tempted to order a piece of furniture from Legend of Asia Home.  I measured the space behind my sofa and fretted some more about it.  I was sure it would be sold out when I went back to the site, and I knew that would solve my problem.

Things got really intense when I clicked back on the One Kings Lane email and found that apparently, I was the only person in the whole wide internet world who was interested in that piece of furniture!   With “sold out” signs in blocks all around it, there was MY piece of furniture still available!  Oh, the fretting that caused – if nobody else wanted it, surely I shouldn’t want it either.  (I’ve never trusted my taste in décor).  Each click that led me toward that “pay now” click, caused extreme stress.  I fought through the stress, and kept on clicking until I had bought the darn thing!

Four weeks of waiting has caused me to consider going to my Doctor to try to get some kind of stress-related medication.

My piece of furniture arrived this morning, and I think I’m going to love it!  buffetI’m just waiting for my husband to ask me what color I’m going to paint that piece of junk I bought.  It is shabby but hopefully a little bit chic.

But just look at the space on top for vignettes, and just look at all of that storage below!  You know I can’t wait to fill up all of that storage space.  (No, it won’t take long).

I know all of you are too kind to tell me if you think this is the ugliest piece of furniture you’ve ever seen, but if you might be inclined to say that, I beg you to hold your tongue (or your fingers), I can’t handle any more stress over this piece of furniture!

I’m linking to Table Top Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life.  Thank you Marty for graciously hosting this weekly event.

Thank you so much for your visit (and thank you for not telling me if you think I made a huge mistake by ordering this piece of furniture!).  laurie

Wow! That's some piece of furniture to buy on any line! I love it...what storage and I especially like the size and height and the way you have to on the back of your sofa where your TableTop pieces can be seen from all areas of the room. Beautiful room and lovely setting! I really enjoyed my first visit to your blog. This is my first Table Top Tuesday, and I've so enjoyed all the posts I've visited so far. Yours is Tops!

Laurie, I smiled all the way through this post. I've been searching for a storage piece for our sun porch. I've looked online, but had the same reservations. This piece looks like something I could use myself. Guess I should check out One Kings Lane. It's new to me.
I think your new piece is wonderful. It looks like it fits perfectly behind your sofa, and I'm sooooooo envious of all that storage space! ~ Sarah

I do like it - very much!! I know what you mean about ordering something. I am one that needs to see something in person and touch it before buying.

It is a gorgeous piece!
I think this time the pressure to buy while you had the opportunity was right.

Girl, I don't have to lie...it's gorgeous just the way it is!!! Heck, I've been so happy with my online furniture buys I ordered a plasma tv stand this mornin'. It can't come too soon, Hubs brought in the tall vice workbench to use until the real deal comes. I'm just callin' it my redneck tv stand.

God bless ya and have a terrific day sweetie!!!

I think it is the perfect piece for behind your sofa and it is GORGEOUS! I do most of my shopping online because we live in a rural area so there isn't much to choose from...even in the nearby cities! Anyways....I always loose sleep and have anxiety whenever I have to order a big ticket item but usually it turns out just fine and all that worrying was for nothing!!! LOL..

Laurie,
That piece is so beautiful, elegant, romantic and lovely! The gold Christmas vignettes on top are wonderful. Great find!
We purchased our dining room chairs from ebay a couple of years ago and have been delighted with them.
It is a big deal, though, isn't it??

I think you did a great job. It is beautiful. I love the design and like you said, look at all that space! Hope your not nerves anymore.

I had to giggle reading your story because I could have written it myself. The only think I've managed to buy on OKL is some candles.... (they smell wonderful)

You did great on picking a nice piece of furniture. For one, new furniture has drawers that work... PLUS a piece of painted furniture adds some interest and softness to a room. I especially like the antiquing and the gilding on the piece. It softens it and gives it some depth.

You also used a rule it took me FOREVER to figure out--don't buy a piece of furniture unless it has a functional use.

Congratulations!
