ON NO! IT’S HER MANTLE AGAIN!

mantle

Are y’all decorating for the Dutch holiday?  My mantle has had some kind of holiday decor on it since October, and now I can’t remember what I had on it before then.  Since then it has had Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter decor!  I’m kidding about the Dutch holiday – I don’t know why I’ve always been attracted to Dutch people and windmills.  I just find them so charming – I wouldn’t want to have to wear those wooden shoes though – Ouch!

pitcher sug crmr

Maybe it all started with this pitcher, and sugar and creamer that belonged to Mother.

pitcher

But then, years ago, I spotted this pitcher at an estate sale.  I couldn’t resist the Dutch children on it, so it came home with me.  I know I should have tulips in the pitchers, but my tulips have already passed their prime, so I had to settle for some Azalea blooms.

stained glass I’m still looking for my clear plate stand to put this painted glass on.  Until I locate it (which may be years), the stand will show through the glass. Ooops!

My yellow tea roses are blooming profusely.  I just love these dainty roses.

book The illustrations in this 1945 book entitled Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates also appeal to me.

I’m linking to A Stroll Thru Life for Table Top Tuesday.  Be sure to go get links for other table tops in Blogville.  Let’s go see if anybody else is celebrating Dutch Day on their table tops.  Thank you so much for coming to see my mantle yet again, and have a happy Dutch Day (you know I’m kidding-I don’t want to get Hallmark all in a twit about making Dutch Day cards, because you know my blog has that much influence!)  laurie

Laurie I love all your Dutch motif collectibles! New York City has Dutch origins and there are still many reminders of that. I remember reading Hams brinker and seeing the same illustrations as a child. I also rememebr a book about Saint Nicholas that ha wonderful illustrations with a Dutch theme.

I have a small collection of the blue and white Delft pottery. It is my dream to visit Delft someday and buy more! :-)

Hey Laurie,
Thanks for the little "dutch treat"! It's charming..I know what you mean about not remembering what was on the mantle before halloween! I still have Easter...maybe I'll wait until the 4th of July! How'd you do your last picture? I love it!

I love all your Dutch things. We have a city in Michigan called Holland. They have a tulip festival every year. There is a ceramic shop that makes Dutch ceramics and I bought a small bowl one time. It is so pretty and has tulips on it. Very nice blog today again, Laurie

I remember a dear aunt giving me Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates as a birthday gift!
I must be strange..I keep family pictures on the mantle except for Christmas..so I admire your Dutch Holiday theme..pass the cole slaw!
If the English hadn't won the battle , New York would be New Netherland, and we would all be sitting on our stoops speaking Dutch..ya!

Hi Laurie- Don't faint, I'm back !!!
Three times and you're out, you know. Think I am all straightened out now.
First, I love your tiles and the new sink. I would move right in there as it's so pretty.
Next, your mosaics are done so nicely and you have outdone yourself. My very favorite is the one of your mantel that looks like a painting. I remember someone speaking of that once. I think it was in Photoshop ??? I really have to try it. Now you are on Facebook and soon we will have a celebrity among us !!! Great job.
Come seen me if you can find me, ha, ha........

Dear Laurie, I can understand your facination with the Dutch Image. When I was a little girl I can remember dreaming that I was Dutch and had wooden shoes. With 2 sisters and 4 brothers when I asked my mom to buy me some wooden shoes her reply was..wait till your brothers wear out a pair of shoes and ask them to add some wood. She thought that was funny.

Laurie Eve..I am finally caught up on all your blogs..loved the kids in their Easter finery! ..and i saw the Iron Girl all dressed up in a pinafore..was that yours??? I had a pink dress with a white pinafore that was my favorite growing up. Before i forget, our Ace hardware gift store(Fusion) has 3 Iron girls..one is very tall if you need a mother for party girl. Since i have 5 of them, i will NOT be purchasing anymore.
I love the Dutch stuff! Susie

Laurie, I will see what I can find in the archives. I really did give it all away when I began to scale down. One daughter has a few pieces in her cottage, but I will do some searching for you.
I have to repeat, I love your mosaics. The fireplace one is priceless. Do frame it !
Thanks for stopping -- I am at home here now.

Hi Laurie, Love your gorgeous mantle. Your Dutch treasures are so pretty and one of my favorites too although I do not collect it. I have hand painted many a dutch shoe in my painting career. Some people collect the shoes and I have found many sizes. I can't imagine walking in them.
Lovely post, as always I so enjoy my visits with you.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
