MIX AND MATCH (OR NOT) AS USUAL!

FULL TBL

As I’ve said before, if you are a bargain hunter, there’s a good chance that things don’t match – at least at my house! For a family dinner this past weekend, I needed eight place settings. I only had six of one kind of plate, so on each end of the table, I used a different plate. I got those little flower-shaped bowls and plates on sale at Pier One. There were only 6 bowls (two pink and four yellow. There were eight of the little plates (five pink and three yellow). That is the reason I have yellow bowls with pink plates and vice versa!

Metal chargers} Estate Sale; place mats, napkins, and napkin rings} I’ve had them too long to remember.   My sister-in-law made that cute tureen and the plate that is under it!

PLATES

It’s really strange, but about the only thing that I had eight of for this table are the milk glass stemware, and those were purchased at three different estate sales!

Salt and pepper shakers were a purchase at a Hallmark sale last year, and the little Ms. Bunny server was my mother’s.

Since it was our grandson’s birthday, the children’s table was a birthday theme. See that cute fork with the bunny handle? I ordered those from The Lazy Peacock Etsy.

I love your sweet table. I loke things that go together. If they are all the same, it is too "matchy-matchy".

Your table is adorable, and I actually prefer to mix and match. It keeps things interesting. Your milkglass goblets are making me jealous. Might have to add that to things to look for. I love that it took you three different sales to come up with 8. I spaced out my tablescape for this Thursday, and next week I'm in Texas for Roundtop. I so wanted to show off my chicky egg cups. Darn!

If my kids were older and I had time for a road trip, I would want to stop by Atlanta, and go to the Classy Flea w/ Susan, and then come on down there and go to estate sales w/ you! My favorite thing on the table are those chick/egg s & p shakers (you'll see why in my latest post! :) Like that little cabbage tree & the tureen thingie your SIL made too.

I love the mixey-matchey! Your table is lovely. Our daughter had the bunny flatware when she was a toddler - we hang it on the kitchen Christmas tree now. I should go get it out of the Christmas box and use it for Easter! Picture the look on hubby's face when I tell him to get those boxes down from the attic, too, LOL!

Laurie, everything at your house is always so cheerful! I love that about you. The bunny forks on the kids table are the cutest thing! Happy birthday to your grandson before I forget to say that! I really like the little cabbage centerpiece you have. And all the mixed and matched plates and bowls just make the table more interesting. I remember having thanksgiving dinners at our house when I was a teenager, and there were so many of us that we sat around a ping pong table (yes I said ping pong table, it was the only table big enough to get 4 families around) with about 3 or 4 different types of dinner plates. Matching dinnerware didn't matter. The important thing was that we were all friends and we were together. :-)

Laurie, your table is gorgeous. I love all the pretty yellow. It is one of my favorite colors right now. So spring and happy. All of the dishes are wonderful finds and I especially love that lettuce centerpiece. What a lovely piece. The childrens table is just beautiful. I am so behind on visiting, I just noticed your "Favorite Things". I will see what I can put together for Sat. Such fun. Hugs, Marty

This is a great job for eight people. My table only seats four, so it's easy to buy four of everything. But I think the yellow and pink are very springlike and go very well together. Finding all the milk glass is funny and I love it! Your centerpiece is great too. Love the darling children's table, too!

Just saw your Saturday party. I am looking forward to it!!

xoxo

Hi Laurie,

You have a gift for including charming details, incorporating whimsical elements, and arranging everything so artfully that it all flows into a perfectly unified vision that seems natural and effortless. It takes more time and effort to mix than to match, but I find it so much more interesting! Nicely done, as always.

Warmest regards,
Bill

I commented on your pretty table earlier, but wanted to write in response to your kind comments on my first TT post. I love that you also have Lenox Moonspun! I wonder if we married about the same time -- 1972. I HAVE put mine in the dishwasher on the China setting, without ill effect. I'll show the Moonspun again when I do a table with my Lenox Windsong china.
