What did bloggers do before Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) started hosting a tablescape posting each week? She's got bloggers running to flea markets and garage sales all over the country to buy china and centerpieces! Not me though. Unfortunately, I've been buying this stuff for years, and I'm just going to warn ya'll, it is a disease that will infect your entire house, and just speaking from experience, it is not a curable disease! (Is there a "Plates Anonymous" group?)
My little contribution to Tablescape Thursday this week is a REAL mixture! I have used gold chargers, paper plates, plastic food containers, popcorn, peanuts, and boxes of candy. I've mixed red and white with burgundy and gold. I've used very formal with very informal. Can you get any more mixed up than this? Probably not, but then you've probably already guessed that I am one mixed up lady! After that description, I'm sure you just can't wait to scroll down and see this tablescape.
Since the Academy Awards are coming up soon, I have partially recreated an Academy Awards themed fund raiser we hosted one time. (I'm not going to tell you how long ago it was, because your jaw would hit your keyboard if you knew how long I had kept all of this stuff!)
This tablecloth is actually an old drapery that reminded me of the curtains hanging on each side of the screen in old movie theaters.Since the Academy Awards are coming up soon, I have partially recreated an Academy Awards themed fund raiser we hosted one time. (I'm not going to tell you how long ago it was, because your jaw would hit your keyboard if you knew how long I had kept all of this stuff!)
The "movie reels" held rope lights that I bought for Christmas one year.
For some reason, my award is only the top half of Oscar, so I used some gold Christmas decor fabric around the bottom of him. (I know, it looks like I'm trying to hide his "you know what", but his "you know what" really isn't there!)
The plastic popcorn boxes contain a few sprigs of flowers that survived from my tablescape last week (I put a plastic bag around the flowers for filler and covered it with some popcorn)
Are you getting tired of seeing my old stand-by...the paper plate under a glass plate? (I really do have stacks of dishes, but none of them are movie-related) I couldn't find any movie themed paper plates , so I put a few movie stickers on white paper plates.
I don't even know where to begin to say thank you to all those who responded so generously to my Valentine party that Laurie Eve co-hosted..(well, she did narrate it.).and she was the best tour guide anyone could ever have. I told her she could make a root canal sound fun with her winning way with words. I know the pics could have been very average at best ,and you would have said those wonderful things just because you love Laurie so much! Well, I have known her for about 57 years, so I do have an edge on you there. She has always been a dear and a kindred spirit to me..as she has grown to be with you.I adore going to her home to visit-it is a treasure trove of love and creativity.Once I spent the night upstairs, and I fully expected Marmie to walk in and tuck me in..you know Laurie would make a great Jo with her writing skills.Thank you all for the warm, encouraging words about our home..you made my week..Love you, Laurie Eve! Susie
My sweet, gentle friend, Susie, actually threatened me if I didn't use her entire note just as she sent it to me.

As the guests arrived, they were each assigned a star's name, and their place card reflected the name of that star. Each of the female guests received a feather boa and each male guest received a bow tie to wear during dinner. Very large sunglasses were available for anyone who wanted to try to avoid the paparazzi.

A plastic server (they used to serve fries in these at drive-in movie theaters) (yeah, I know, I'm telling my age again- I do NOT want any of you young people to leave a comment asking what a drive-in movie was).
If you go to Between Naps on the Porch, you'll see links to wonderful tablescapes (which I'm sure are very coordinated and match beautifully).

A note from my friend, Susie, who so graciously let us tour her home and come to her Valentine party on my blog last week (I added all of the good stuff about me!):

Yes, my middle name is "Eve", but nobody (including Susie) has ever actually called me Laurie Eve. For some unknown reason, Susan Eloise just started using my middle name in emails.
As always, thank you so very much for coming to visit my blog. laurie

"LEAVE it to LAURIE", to come up w/ the most clever, fun n' truly fascinating tablescapes~~~ coming here is ALWAYS SUCH a treat!~~~ The only "problem" Laurie, is that I'm usually "up late", & when I see cute ideas, my mind just AUTOMATICALLY starts wandering, as I TRY to drift off to sleep... (I start dreaming of ways to "be creative" & mostly, make it FUN~~~ it's a wonder I EVER get to sleep!!!). You're GOOOOD, dear pal! Hugs n' MANY THANKS!!! Linda
Hi Laurie, Connie here........
I was reading your fantastic blog and it said click to this post, so i clicked on the button.
Blogger changes things every now and then. Pretty soon we won't have to go to the blogs,
we can just read them on our dashboard.
In any case, i loved that post 'cause I have nothing to bring to a blog but me and an occasional picture. Guess I am too lazy to clean the house so I can take a picture of a spotless abode. It's the people -- they are great.
Do you sing ? You could do a video of something. How about Mama Mia, he, he. Pretend your are Meryl Streep.Think about it !!!
Laurie Eve, (I love it!) Your tablescape is so cute, unique, and so you! You make me laugh everytime! (Hide his you know what! LOL) Love Ya! Connie
Laurie,
I totally had fun going through your pictures and looking at all the creative and clever things you used. The stickers on the paper plates was neat. I couldn't figure it out till I read it. Your comment about Oscar's lower half! Hilarious! Now "That's Entertainment"! Huggy Hugs!
Laurie,
LOL, this was so much fun! You certainly have a very creative mind my dear. I loved all your cute ideas for a Oscar table done on the cheap. Now that's my kind of table. Thats so funny about Susan having us run all over for tablescapes! My hubby just shakes his head, but he is so tolerant. I am just about pooped out on tables but I am sure I can find a few more ideas once garage sale season hits. Cindy
Laurie this is such a fun idea! I love the popcorn holder as the flower vase, and the oscar comment was a hoot. I guess the new President should thank Susan for stimulating the economy! Kathy
How I'd love to sit at that table! What a fun time it must have been. I especially like the "vases."
This is such a wonderful idea! I love the paper plate under the glass plate idea! And the popcorn vases are perfect! :D Jewel
How FUN and how CLEVER you are! That is adorable and soooo inviting! Linda
You are sooo clever! I love all your little touches and what a guest list!
I love your tablescape. Great idea very cute
marge
You must be a night person! This is just too cute girlfriend! Every little detail! You really are very creative Miss Laurie! Do you notice all my exclamation marks!!! I haven't even done a tablescape and I find myself at Marshall's or the antique mall and ebay looking for dishes and glassware! love ya Miss Laurie! God Bless you today! Lauralu
P.S. There's just something about us southern belles I think that call out for an extended name...I'm Laura but early on people started calling me Miss Laura and then my mother-n-law started calling me Lu and now Lauralu has become my pen name!
Hi Laurie! You are so creative! I don't know how you come up with all of your ideas! I love your little cover for Mr. Oscar and your movie reel! The idea of the feather boas and the sunglasses was priceless! I love it! ...hugs...Debbie
PS You are right about Susan sendng us all to the GW!!
What a clever job you've done. I also enjoyed reading the note from my sister-in-law Susie, who is one of the most clever tablescapers (is that a word) that I know.
I was also fascinated by all of the Night Owls as evidenced by the time stamp on the comments.
What a clever and creative tablescape, Laurie! The details you thought of! The "movie reels" are ingenious! I would have fully enjoyed donning a feather boa and movie star sunglasses for the evening...of course I would have taken my sunglasses off to accept my Oscar!!!
Have a fabulous day!
;-D
Laurie! This is fabulous! You win!!
BE a sweetie,
Shelia :P
Another fun tablescape, Laurie! you host the best and most enjoyable parties. Good idea on the theme and you did not leave any detail behind. Your friend Susie is just as sweet as you. "Birds of the same feather stick together" proves to be true again in your case....Christine
It's Movie time..I remember when you did that big fun-draiser with the movie theme..we got the half Oscars at The Dollar Tree. I bought 30 of them and stored them at
the K-Life house since they borrowed them every year. A new crew came in and did not know what they were and threw them all away. Have you ever seen a grown woman cry? It was hilarious(now..not then)..I wanted to go to the Dump and look for them! Oh, the things a crazy woman will do for a party theme! It all looks great on your table and I want to sit by Steve Martin! Always fun at your house. Susan Eloise
Oh, how adorable is this! Love this tablscape and all the props
you used. Just unique! You got it going on girlfriend.
Laurie, this is just so creative. I would never in a million years think of all the things you do. What a fun tablescape. I loved all the mixed together items, made it a lot more fun. Hugs, Marty
I love it!!!!
~*~Leanne~*~
How cute is this.I wonder?Did you and Susan conspire on this?Isn't that funny? You both have about the same idea,and---it's a good one.I wish I'd have thought of it...Ann
You are already in the club for Dish Addicts. lol I'm like you--I've been collecting this stuff since I was knee-high. My mother said she would participate in TT if she wasn't so feeble. She used to set the dining table with the seasons, and she had tablecloths made (sequins, etc) by someone in a carnival club (New Orleans).
Enough of memory lane. If you don't have electricity yet, then I am eating up your battery time by my long winded comment.
This is the most fabulous tablescape ever. I love how each guest was assigned an actor's name. And the freesia (?) in the popcorn--genius! The Oscar, the mix of dishes--it deserves an Academy Award for excellent tablescaping!
Wish I lived near you. Do you know that I almost convinced Dr. Gollum to move there? The fun we woulda had!
I see LIGHT in the background! I hope your electricity has been restored.
Ms. Laurie, Your tablescape is too cute this week. It got my brain thinking of ideas, like putting random current nominee names on the place cards and if your name wins you get a prize (a fake oscar??). Anyway, I really like how you added the ticket stubs under the glass plate--very clever and a great job improvising. So creative this week!
Blessings,
Linda
You must lie awake at night to think up all these great ideas. You my lady have a fascinating mindset.
Can't imagine where you found the empty movie reels to fill with the rope lights. I have seen the plastic baskets at a restaurant supply store, though I do remember the ones from my drive-in days. I found some hot dog holders at the grocery store hanging on a J hook, but they are labeled on the side "Oscar Mayer". I like yours much better, but alas, I'm stuck with mine.
Your table covering is just perfect. The picture of Oscar wouldn't enlarge for me, but that's OK, 1/2 an Oscar is better than no Oscar at all.
Loved the theme and the execution as well.
i LOVE your tablescapes ALOT but this one is just plain FUN! :)
Thank you so much for sharing your AWESOME tables! You are truly soo inspiring and i am soo GLAD i found you! :) Have a LOVELY Thursday!
I love it, Laurie! I've seen those popcorn boxes at Tarjay and you've given me an idea how to use them! Great post!
If a group for DAA is started I would need to be in line to join. I've been collecting odds and ends dishes nearly 50 years and it is still growing! Oh well....it makes for some great Tablescape Thursdays!
Hi Laurie,
I was wondering if anyone would think to do an Academy Awards theme and you didn't disappoint!
:0)
What fun. I love the place cards with actors names on them...
Hey Susan is helping us all boost the economy with our tablescaping purchases and metamorphosing our spaces buys!! Blessings...
Laurie,
I'm very new at the TT, but had fun doing my first table.
Your table, and descriptions are so fun.
You are very creative (which i already knew from visiting here before.)
Blessings on your day.
Barbara Jean
I think your paper plates/stickers idea is perfect; and, who'dathunk that idea for movie reels - awesome! The popcorn floral arrangement is cool, too!
Mornin' Girlfriend...
Girl...if this just isn't the cutest themed tablescape that I've ever seen!!! I love, love, love it!!! And it's soooo much fun! You did a marvelous job with all the "movie things" in your centerpiece!!! It's simply adorable!!! I'll never tire of seeing your pretty paper plates under glass...I still think it's the grandest idea ever!!! And...you're just so creative using the little movie stickers on the plates!!! Believe me, I am storing all of these fabulous ideas!!!
Well my friend, I do hope that you sit me at Julia Robert's place...hehe!!! I love Julia Roberts and always watch all of her movies...hehe!!! Thank you so much for sharing this fabulously fun tablescape today...I just adore it!!!
Have a wonderful day, Dearheart (or should I say Laurie Eve...)
Love ya,
Chari
Laurie... what a wonderful creative tablescape... I love it! Wish I'd been a guest at your table... oh the stories we could share! blessings. Dixie

~Melissa :)
I just love the Oscars themed tablescape .... I always watch the Oscars! You are on to something, my dear ... we don't need an economic stimulus plan, we all need to blog and tablescape ~ plenty of dollars flowing then!
Laurie Eve sounds like a movie star name .....
Laurie, this was TOO CUTE for words! I absolutely loooooooooove it!
Thanks for you comments, and thanks for linking my blog. I'm just now finding out about all these sharing opportunities. I love having people from all over visit my blog.

(((HUGS)))
Donna
You really thought of everything. Must be fun to come to your house for a party. I don't have the equipment, imaginnation, or energy for that. LOL
Hugs,
Chris
BRAVO!!! this is really a Five Star affair girl...loved it all only you could come up with something like this and make it so much fun to read and see..and I did think you would try to cover up his you know what..what a great mind you have Laurie..and you should write a book..girl I would read it...thanks for a fun day I really needed that today...hugs and smiles dear friend..Gl♥ria
You are a hoot!!! I just love your posts. And I love your "Oscar" table.
Don't you hate when people use your middle name? I had one aunt that always called me by both names, and it got on my last nerve. I like the name "Eve"...it's kind of sexy, don't you think? Have to ask it you're married to Adam? ;O) You should have rounded down that 57 # down b/c you definitely don't look that old! I love your Academy award themed party! I bet it was a blast! You are the PARTY QUEEN!
Laurie, This tablescape was just awesome! Very creative and clever I might add..... so many details! I just loved it! Kristen
What a great Oscar party table... you are ready for Sunday!
Laurie, I agree with your decision to keep everything from you Aawards party of years gone by.Each piecce is perfect, how could you ever get rid of any of it.Loved it all I really liked the napkins in the hotdog holders.I am going to try and remember that one in my memory bank.Great Job and now are you having a party sunday? Hugs Kathysue
Well Laurie Eve! I'm hyperventilating on this one! First, Oscar night is my favorite night of the year...I guess you could say I'm a bit star struck!! :-) But this tablescape is SO DANG creative and beautiful! I love it! The napkin holders are just the cutest! That is one part I am sad that I missed! Lol Great post! L~
Hi Laurie, I love your Oscars tablescape, what a perfect idea and your attention to details is brilliant. Kathy
Laurie, this is so cute! Very clever. I was thinking today that I wish I was clever enough to participate in this...but I know ahead of time I am not....so I will save myself the embarrassment. Love your table. You are such a clever one!
That was great, so creative!
Thanks for the smile!
Hello Laurie Eve...what a pretty name you have...but back to the subject at hand...I want to host an Oscar Party now! This is such a wonderful idea & you put together a perfectly themed table...what a fabulous time your guests must have had! My DH spotted the Dots...he loves those...LOL ;-) Bo
So so cool of a table! What a fun idea to do! I'll try that when our friends come over this next week!
Thank you for the great idea!
First time participant, Carolyn
I joined your TV! and am now following your blog!
LOVE IT LAURIE
Running late this week visiting blogs....
Hope you had a great Tablescape Thursday
Susan
Hey Laurie, your tablescape is so artistic, I adore it. You always come up with such fun stories to go with your posts. You are such a creative person.
What a great idea, Laurie. I don't have to ask you about the drive-in. I remember loading up in the family station wagon with all us kids in our PJs. Mom would fry some chicken and make potato salad and we'd have that for supper while watching the movie. We had to scrap money together to pay the admission, so we surely didn't have money to go to the snack bar.....such sweet memories. Nina
Well, Laurie Eve...you had me laughting as usual! I love this...soooooo creative! Makes me want to thorough an Oscars party...and I don't even watch the Oscars! What a fun, fun table. I love the idea of the boas for the ladies and the bow ties for the guys...what a hoot it would be to see everyone decked out! :-) Signed, Susan Olivia
Laurie, this is fabulous.. I love you had places for some pretty great stars..talk about being creative... you take the Oscar my friend... hugs ~lynne~
Your table is delightful and fun1 Thanks for posting.
Laurie, You are so creative! I bet your Oscar dinner was so much fun for everyone! Your recreation is a hoot & I loved your bottomless Oscar too! ♥ Diane
Laurie I love the idea of the paper plates between the glass plate- just think of how much variation that gives you and those hot dog holders for the napkins- so cute. You are so creative with your tablescapes- Such a fun theme. You and Susan must have been having the same kind of dreams as her's is such a fun themed one also.
blessings
mary
I love this tablescape, Laurie, for about a dozen different reasons. first of all, it's adorable and sweet as can be. I worked in TV and film production for 10 years, so the Oscars are always a fun time to remember way back when ...
and before that, I managed movie theatres for 5 years while in college. I lived on popcorn and soda because they were free and filling, and I'm still addicted to popcorn and could eat it every day. And Jr. Mints? Oh my! Love those little yummers. Hot dogs are yummy too, and the red and white hot dog "boats" remind me of the country fair and all kinds of summer fun. Summer fun and corndogs and fresh lemonade. And maybe a margarita made my favorite way, with sugar free Crystal Light lemonade mix and half a lime and LOTS of ice.
I wouldn't have guessed that your Oscar is only half a statue ... I actually thought he looked a bit like C3PO from Star Wars, and was maybe just filling in :o)
Victoria :o)
Laurie,I apologize.my "compose"does NOT like me.I COULD NOT get it to save the last 3 names.Everytime,I left,it deleted the last 3 names. What?I'm not making sense?Well, just come pick up your award,it's the daily blogger one. You'll see and understand then,ok?...Ann
I love this table. You are soooo creative!
Shannon
That is so fun. I loved that you handed out boas, ties, and sunglasses. Too fun. I bet your guests were just laughing. The table looks great...and I never get tired of your paperplate under a clear plate trick. It's so smart!
Hi again! :)
just popping in to say you have been tagged! i hope you play along and if you do, there are simple rules to follow, come see them on my blog! :) Have a GREAT day!!
hahahahhaah girl I am laughing so hard this sweet tea just came out of my nose! I didn't know that was humanly possible hahahahahaha
However, (trying to gain my composer here) your table was so fun! I loved looking at it!! The movie theme is perfect!! As for Oscar's you know what...its been so long for me I probably wouldn 't recognize it anyhow LOL
I know I am being bad!!!
I did love your table, and I love you too!
Have a beautiful weekend!!
Love Lilly
Oh my goodness! Laurie, this is soooo cute and so creative I just love it. You always have the most creative posts. I love it!
Blessings,
Debbie
Wow, this setting is just perfect for an Oscar celebration...your guests must have been impressed and really enjoyed themselves!
Hello Laurie! Oh I was lol at your story of the cow & trailer. I know their size can be intimidating! So funny! I have to share a story with you..About 10 years ago, we had to do a round up of the cattle to brand them (ick!) & shots. We had over a 100 at the time. We had men out on horseback, in trucks, on foot & atv's rounding them up. My sister-in-law and I were waiting down at the barn with our young babies. All of a sudden we see the herd racing toward the open gate to where we were, which would mean they would be running off down the driveway to the street! Disasterous! A scary sight of all these cows, kicking up dust, charging at you. But my sis-inlaw and I got up from our seats, baby's perched on our hips and held out our free arms & stopped that herd dead in their tracks! Oh we still laugh about that! All these sweaty, dirty men tossing their testosterone around and here we just calmly saved the day with our toddlers in tow!:) Now onto your tablescape - you are so fun & creative and really know how to set a mood. I would love to come to a party at your wonderful home! Have a great weekend! ~ Laurie
Hi Laurie:
You and your friends are so creative. I loved your friend, Susie's Valentine party, and I love this idea of yours for the Oscars. I didn't realize those were paper plates under the clear glass. Pretty smart idea. Also, where did you get the gold oscar?
I like him, even if he is only half a man. lol.
Very cute table setting. I want to come to one of your parties!!!!
Hi Laurie, Thanks for the visit. That is not salad on the red compote. Do you remember when you posted my dining room on your blog before X'mas? This was the same party. The table in the kitchen was my dessert and drink table. All the food was in the dining room. We have a lot of holly bushes outside lining the driveway so I cut a lot of the holly berries and leaves and that's what's in the red bowl, just X'mas decor, to add dress the table...Christine
What a fun tablescape! Love the reel, the star napkins rings and the sunglasses! You have truly thought of everything!
Hi Laurie, So, here I am just barely getting around to looking at your darling Valentine table setting...as usual Im a day late and $1 short. I would have never known those were paper plates under glass!!! Thanks for your always inspiring ideas. ~Athella
Laurie, you just never fail to come up with the most creative ideas for Tablescape Thursday each week...I love visiting, and seeing what fun you have dreamed up every Thursday! Ok, well, in this case, I'm visiting on a Saturday, but usually, I'm waiting at the door on Thursday evenings to peek in! :-) Next week, I'm joining in if its the last thing I do, lol, but don't expect greatness right away! Ha!
i'm late on this, actually it's very early and so I can get some surfing done
love this tablescape, I really enjoyed looking through the pics, love it when that happens, why I love blogging
Sarah
Check your E-mails, Sweetie ~ there's a "surprise" for you! XO
How wonderful, the reel and all, such a great party! Just a lot of fun! The hot dog tray, are too cute! I so behind on visting everyone, I have had my grands for weeks now and they will be bright and early in the morn. Love your table party!
Laurie Sweetie! Good Morning! I've got a little something for you over at my blog! Come pick it up! God bless! Lauralu :)
I am playing catch up Laurie, how did I miss this darling Oscars table! Very creative!
Thanks for stopping in my blog as always. I feel a tiny bit better, still so tired, had 2 naps today and still tired for bed tonight.
Slow but sure getting over this yuk!
Linda
I am a little late visiting the TT posts.
What a fun & unique table--I love it!
Great idea to use stickers on those paper plates. I have the same popcorn containers and also use mine as vases.
That is such a fun idea!
Laurie, I don't know how I missed this tablescape last week, but it is sooo good. I love all the touches you added to make it "oscar worthy." You did a great job with this!
Hello
Of course if it was a real Hollywood party, the chances of anyone actually eating anything for fear of putting on any weight is rather low, but wave a few nibbles on a Hollywood Plastic party platter and you can be confident that at least your guests will be going home with a bit of food inside them.
Nice one see this website
