BACK 2 SCHOOL

Back to School Mantel

A couple of weeks ago, I shared last year’s back-to-school mantel.  Today, I’m sharing this year’s mantel.  Right now, I have bronchitis, and it is wearing me out, so the décor didn’t get as involved this year.

Our grands starting asking about “the back-to-school” dinner, since they go back tomorrow, so this weekend, I broke down and gave them their dinner.

As usual, the décor is more from my school days than theirs, but I did throw in a couple of miniature calculators to bring the look a little more up-to-date.  I still used a “Big Chief” tablet, since I had to have one of those every year, along with vintage text books.

The little school house was part of a “Mary Had a Little Lamb” wall hanging in my bedroom when I was a child.  I don’t know what happened to Mary and the little lamb.  The school is all that remains of the set.  I recently saw the “Mary” (sans lamb and school) on an Etsy, but when I went back to look for it, I couldn’t find it.  I also used my vintage pencil box on the mantel.

If you’re going to use flowers on a back-to-school mantel, they should have script on them.

I can’t believe that Summer is over and it’s time to go back to school!  Didn’t Summer used to be longer than this?  The expression, “time is flying by” is appropriate when you get to be my age.  Thank you for your visit.  laurie

Ohhh I love all your books! and your wonderful pencil cases....I haven't seen one of them since I was in school but mine was always plastic. I WISH they still made them like yours!!

Such a pretty mantle and post!

I love it! I really should get cracking on some back to school decor. My kids go back in two weeks.

I hope you feel better soon!

Be careful - you don't want the bronchitis to go into pneumonia.
Time is flying by - way to fast.

Well first, I hope you are feeling much better very soon!

Second? I love the mantel, and my favorite part is actually the flowers with the writing on them. Inspired idea and a great way to add a little modern whimsy to the vintage school look.

Hi Laurie, Yes summer was short this season and it just seemed to fly by.
Love your back to school mantel and I imagine the dinner you gave the grands was special.
