PICNIC IN THE SNOWY WOODS

Tablescape in Winter

You may have seen my “winter in the woods” mantel in my previous post.  This week, we dined in the winter woods.  (I can’t believe that, once again, I forgot to light a fire before I took these pictures!)

Tablescape in Winter

Last winter, I used this ruffled baby blanket to give the idea of snow drifts, and in the summer, I used it to give the impression of wave caps on the water.  That has become a useful baby blanket, but it’s never been used for a baby!

It looks like I’m unloading the holiday closet almost as fast as I load it with Christmas décor!  Yep, I went back in there to get these sparkly deer for this snow and ice tablescape.

Winter Tablescape

There are winter birds fluttering around in the woods (and on our salad plates).  Lenox Winter Greetings, purchased at an estate sale.  This one depicts a Goldfinch.

On this plate, there is a Downy Woodpecker.

The dinner plate is Winter Festival by Wedgwood, which I bought at a “going out of business” sale at a gift store several years ago.  I bought the silver chargers at Tuesday Morning years ago.

If you’re going to the woods in the snow and ice, you have to bring it all with you, so I have our wine bottle, soup tureen, and soup bowls nearby.

After the salad, I served a much-needed, body-warming soup.

I know the cold weather has hit most of us this week.  We are fortunate that, as cold as it is here in Arkansas, we are not battling snow, power outages, or ruptured pipes.  My prayers go out to those who are having to deal with extremely harsh weather.

Frozen Pool

In Arkansas, we consider our weather extreme when our pool looks like this!

I hope my tablescape didn’t leave you feeling even colder.  Thank you for coming to visit.  laurie

Pretty icy tablescape, Laurie. We must have a similar weather but I think your pool is worse than ours. We only have a few icicles under the slide and where the pool fountains are. Stay warm!...Christine

No icicles here, but we've had misty rain all day. Oh, the dreary days of January! I'm thankful the moisture came after the temperature rose above freezing.
Pretty table, Laurie. I enjoyed stopping by to dine in the woods on a snowy evening. ;-)
Light that fire and stay warm and cozy!

Very pretty! I like the snow affect and the sweet bird dishes. Why did I think you lived in Chicago? Gees I had that all goofed up!

Love your icy table, Laurie! That baby blanket makes a great table topper. Pretty birdie plates...
I just found out Cuisine Kathleen is taking several weeks off...have been sick since right after Christmas, so I have missed out on quite a bit.
Have a great week...stay warm!

You really have created some beauty for this cold time of the year. I packed up my deer...now I wish I had them out to enjoy longer. (I guess I can dig them back out! lol) Stay warm!

Your goldfinch plate looks very much like the cover of the book by the same name. Have you read it?

Hi Laurie, Love your tablescape and the baby blanket is perfect for the snow drifts. You just think of everything. Gorgeous plates and I love the covered soup bowls.
I had to smile at your pool pic. Our pool had a thin layer of ice this year for the first time. It will not freeze through as the pump automatically comes on at low temps but that ice layer just amazed us too.

Lovely winter woods tablescape.

Love your picnic in the snow. What a great idea about the baby blanket! I do remember it being your "ocean" also and it works for both effects! Stay warm!

I would say that pool is very extreme!

As for the table, it' s just beautiful. I love how you use the baby blanket. It's perfectly wintry.

I am supposed to be getting stuff done around here and not thinking about dishes right now. It's hard because you make me want to go play with some and make a winter scene. It wouldn't be half so lovely as yours, though. I love it.

I love eating in front of the fireplace especially when it's as miserable as it is right now. Your table is fantastic!

Just beautiful! I have never found anything that good at an estate sale! Love the silver branch things, too. I sometimes think about with my hoarding condition, that my estate sale will be pretty enjoyable for someone. ;.(
