FABRIC TRANSFER

Yesterday, while posting photos of chairs I painted two years ago, I also posted the image transfer that I did on the chair seats.  Two years ago, when I posted photos of the painted chairs, I had not yet done the transfer on the seats.

Since I’m not a perfectionist, and I thought the blurred images made it look like a lot of bottoms had already sat on the new seat covers, a little more antiqued, the look was okay with me.  I just didn’t think they were blog-worthy.  That is why I was so surprised that some of my visitors seemed to actually like my blurry image on the chair seats!  Makes me kind of sorry  I waited two years to show them to you.

I always seem to go about things the hard way.  I’m one of these people who vacuums the floor, and then dusts the furniture (leaving dust all over the floor).  Being anxious to finish my chairs (I’m also a “I want it finished yesterday” person), I cut a painter’s drop cloth and stapled it to the chair seats, and then decided the seats looked a little dull.  Bargain Hunting with Laurie

See what I’m talking about?  Really plain.  Of course, I know that if I had transferred the image onto the fabric before I stapled the fabric to the chairs, it would not have been centered and would probably have been very crooked, due to my previously-mentioned “get it done quickly” personality. So, I rushed over to The Graphics Fairy.

Oh, how I love The Graphics Fairy.  I could browse through her graphics all day.  I found a graphic I liked, downloaded it, and worked on it in PhotoScape (my photo editing program of choice).  I added the monogram and reversed the image, and then I printed a copy of it.  Since the fabric was already on my chairs, I didn’t feel like I had a lot of choice in the way I transferred the image.

So, I went back to The Graphics Fairy to get the directions for transferring with Citra-Solve.  (See, I really do have four chairs ~ for those who saw yesterday’s post).

Since I wasn’t going to post about this on my blog, I didn’t take photos while I was doing mine.  But, if you are interested in the directions, just click over to see this great tutorial at The Graphics Fairy.

I’m linking this post to Brag Monday at The Graphics Fairy.  I can’t believe I’m now bragging about these chair seats that I formerly felt weren’t worthy of a blog post!  “Y’all’s” comments yesterday were so nice, you’ve just about convinced me they look okay.

They look wonderful to me. I'm redoing some chairs for our kitchen as my next paint project, and I like the painter's cloth for the seats. Don't know if it will be as dark as I want but I'm going to try. I *might* try the transfer too. If I don't, it will be an issue of chicken out rather than not loving it.

Laurie, you are super funny! I probably wouldn't have been able to center the graphics on the seats either! I've never tried the citra-solve product but I may give it a try someday now that I've seen your chairs!

Hi Laurie! I am a 'get it done yesterday and FAST' kind of gal too. I love your chairs .. I have one that needs 'doing' so I should be able to do it quickly? Headed over the that fairy you speak of. Have a lovely weekend.

Love the way the chairs look, I do like the kind of faded look cause if they were older they would have that vintage fade, love the look and love those chairs...

You did good !! I would have had to stencil after the fabric was put on also, as I would have never got it centered. I have not attempted stenciling in years - never was good at it anyway.
Have a wonderful weekend.
