WE CELEBRATED AMERICA’S BIRTHDAY

Bargain Huntiing with Laurie

Our grandchildren (and sometimes some of the adults) were in and out of the pool all day.  When they get out of the pool, they are ALWAYS hungry.  Swimming works up an appetite.  I had healthy snacks waiting for them in the “refreshment center”.

My “serving table” is a bench that my sweetheart made years ago.  I attached a board to the top of the bench, which gave me two surfaces for food.

I paid $2.00 for the metal “refreshment center” sign at the auction I recently attended.  I think it originally would have had a Coca-Cola sign attached to it, but I’m glad it was gone, because there would have been Coca-Cola collectors bidding against me if it had been there.

If I didn’t want to show you my scale, also purchased at the recent auction, I wouldn’t show you this table.  I’m calling it “the forgotten table”, because I forgot to use it on the 4th.  I had clean strawberries to put in the bowl on top of the scale, and chocolate dipping sauce to put in the little bowl inside the wooden box.  I completely forgot to take them out of the refrigerator!  So, I am now forced to dip all of those strawberries and eat them myself!

I have admired other blogger’s scales for YEARS, but being a bargain hunter, I’ve never found a scale that was in my price range!    I was so excited to see two of them at the auction.  I lost the first one to a higher bidder, but I guess she and I were the only two at the auction who were really interested in scales.  I had a little competition in the bidding for this one, so I ended up paying $17.50 for it.  I was thrilled!

Our grandson (now 7 1/2 months old) with his mother.  Many of you prayed for Cooper when he was born at 25 weeks, weighing one pound, 14 ounces.  Look at this chubby little guy now.  He weighs over 11 pounds!  All of my grands are God-given miracles, but Cooper is our most obvious miracle.

I love the "Refreshment Center". I always wonder how you work and get all this decorating done in a big house. I work 4 days a week and get almost nothing done until my three days off. I love your scale. I just bought my second one for $14.

What a fantastic celebration! Really like the way you decorated the backyard structure. The flags on the back posts are a great idea. Love the little fabric ties on the food containers too. Little Cooper is a cutie - glad he is doing well. Blessings, Catherine

Sweet little Cooper, all in his red and blue 4th outfit! Isn't he a miracle! And you give all of them the chance to celebrate this special holiday with each other and enjoy that pool. Of course you do have the payoff of having those chocolate covered strawberries, the ones that were accidentally forgotten!

I wish I could throw a party as nice as yours, Laurie!

Oh, Laurie, your precious grandchildren are so lucky to have such a fun grandmother! It looks like you had such fun!

And I laughed when I read about the forgotten strawberries- how many times have I left food in the oven or fridge only to discover it the next day?!

I forgot the ice cream at one of my daughter's b-day parties one year. It's hard to remember everything. I'm so happy to see your little grandson is doing well! What a blessing. Did you see the thing on FB recently about keeping flies away by hanging up pennies in Ziploc bags? Your food cover thingies are much more stylish, but I thought of that when I saw those. ;o) Hope you had a wonderful 4th.
