A GOOD SEASON FOR AN AUCTION

I really don’t like auctions very much.  I’m too impatient to wait around all day, and when someone is bidding against me, I start feeling sorry for them and stop bidding. I’d much rather go to estate or tag sales, and just walk in and buy what I want quickly, without knowing whether anyone else wanted to buy it.

However, when I learned that there was to be an auction in the tiny Arkansas town where my husband’s hunting camp is located, I decided I’d go with him to hunting camp and attend the auction.

Before I take you to the auction, I want to show you a house that we pass on the way to hunting camp.  I’ve been watching the progress on the renovation of this house for almost two years!  I wish I had “before” pictures to show you, but the porches have yet to be replaced, and they will give you an idea of the original condition of the house.

Before they started work on the house, it really looked like it should be demolished.  They are slowly doing a fantastic job of remodeling it.

Although it is getting hot here in Arkansas, it was a good time for this auction.  The auction started outside, and by the time the noon heat was getting to us, we moved inside the very well air conditioned old store.

This building had not been used as a store for years, but a grandson of the original owner had kept a lot of the old store fixtures and merchandise, and he has added to it with other antiques he has collected over the years.

I’ll just let you look around and see if there was anything you would have bid on and if you spot anything you think I might have bid on.

 

 

 

This is the longest seed counter I’ve ever seen.  They make wonderful kitchen islands, but this one would be too long for any kitchen I’ve ever seen.

There were a few great wood freight dollies.

I haven’t seen a pay phone in a long time, so I took a picture, even though this wasn’t being auctioned.  It is probably needed in this little town, because cell phone reception is not good out here in the middle of nowhere.  Each time someone paid with a credit card, the cashier for the auction company had to carry around her credit card machine to try to get reception.

I can’t show you much of what I bought, because I haven’t even unloaded the car yet, but I will show you something I didn’t buy.  I was surprised at the number of people who were bidding on this boar!  Don’t you want one for your home?

We did unload one thing at hunting camp, before we headed home.  This beat up tool box is now a coffee table in my husband’s hunting cabin.  He paid $5.00 for it.  (Shhhh, don’t tell him he’s got the shabby chic look going on in his cabin!)
