THROW ME SOME BEADS PLEASE!

My family celebrated Mardi Gras early with a Jambalaya dinner served buffet style this weekend.

Even the crockpot got into the spirit of Mardi Gras.

I couldn’t serve a King cake with one baby doll inside, because I would have ended up with some sad grandchildren when all of them didn’t find a baby in the cake.  So, I put a baby on top of each Mardi Gras cupcake.

You are not going to believe this, and I can’t believe I’m tellin’ ya this.  That blingy fabric under the green dinner plates is a shirt that I wore to a Christmas party back in the 70’s!  I can’t believe I wore that, and I know you can’t believe I still have it!  (My grands often wear it when they play dress up.)

You are not going to believe this next picture either, and I REALLY can’t believe I’m showing this on my blog.  I guess this proves I’ll do just about anything for my grands, and I’ll do just about anything for a blog laugh.  Somehow, I became my grandchildren’s craft project for the Mardi Gras dinner.

I don’t think I’ll be linking this craft to any of the great craft parties around Blogville!
Edited to Add:  My friend, Lilac, wanted to join the fun at the wedding party at Décor to Adore, and since her wedding outfit did look more like Mardi Gras attire than wedding attire, (s-h-h-h-h-h, don’t tell Lilac I said that. I don’t want to hurt her feelings), I thought it would be okay to let her join this post full lngth
I let her wear my mother’s costume jewels.  nec brac pinShe said those clip-on earrings don’t hurt nearly as much when your earlobes are metal!

And what could complete a wedding ensemble better than a rose in your hair (I think Lilac thought she looked like Kate) and a purse that says “Love”?  Unless….
hat purse
It’s poofy little things on your head, like my bridesmaids had to wear (keep in mind this WAS the 60’s, and there wasn’t much choice or variety in bridesmaids dresses) (I did NOT make my bridesmaids all wear the same hairstyle – I guess that was just THE style back then!), wdng party
Or maybe something around your neck that looks like it's choking you, or maybe just carry an Easter basket.  This was for my sister’s wedding (and her wedding was in the more “stylish” 70’s, but apparently, the empire style bridesmaids dresses were still “in”)! (Are you lovin’ my hippy-lookin’ hairdo?  With this hairdo, that choker should have been around my forehead!)

I am linking to Table Top Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life, Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch,  and Home Sweet Home on Friday at The Charm of Home, and the Wedding Wear party hosted by Décor to Adore.  Thanks to our hostesses.

My next post will be some of my favorite things with cloches plopped over them, so that I can participate in Marty’s Cloche Party (A Stroll Thru Life) on March 11th and host Favorite Things Saturday all at the same time.  Thank you for coming by.  I hope you’ll be back to link up for Favorite Things Saturday. laurie

Laurie, I'm impressed that you host so many family dinners and decorate for them. You win the prize!
Fun photos! Love all the different fleur de lys. I like the idea of everyone finding a baby on top of their cake.

LOL! You are hilarious, Laurie! So cute that you will allow your grandkids to do anything to you. I thought it is so funny cause I would do the same thing. I just went to a Mardi gras party and parade last Saturday but your table looks better (shhh, don't tell my friend, lol). Rochelle came for a visit and despite her having surgery, we had a lot of fun...Christine

Actually do believe both! What a fun time y'all must have had! I have a purple sequin and satin dress from the 80's I have used on my table and mantle for MG, glad I am not the only one who saves blingy clothes and uses them to decorate! Love all you fleur de lis - especially that umbrella!

Ah, Laurie, you are really into it, Mardi Gras and fun that is, this week, and I love the fact that you have anything from the 70' still around and make use of it. I am so not a keeper of things, something I sometimes regret. I'm babysitting tonight and all I have on me is spit up!

Hopefully there is not a trace of the 60's or 70's in my house, although those years were the best of times! Enjoyed the wedding photos.

Looks like a wonderful Mardi Gras celebration. I agree about lack of choice for bridesmaid's dresses in the 60's. I think that I wore that same dress at one point. Thank you for sharing your charming design and for the walk down memory lane. Cherry Kay
