TABLELESS TOP-SCAPE!

Oh, the weather outside is frightful!

If we are dining on the floor, without a table, is the post still eligible for Tablescape Thursday?
food
I know Marty has told us that our posts for Table Top Tuesday do not have to be on top of a table. (I do think the implication was that there would be a vignette that was raised off of the floor in some manner!)  So, is this post okay for Table Top Tuesday?  (I really think Table Top Tuesday is supposed to be for vignettes, so I’m reeealy stretching the meaning of TTT by submitting this on-the-floor dinner scape to Marty’s weekly party!)
102
My sister-in-law, Brenda, found this great “Ducks Unlimited” picnic basket at a re-sale store.  It doesn’t look like it was ever used.  She gave it to the “boys” in my family to take to their hunting camp.
picnic bsktThere was no way I was going to allow a bunch of guys to run off with this treasure before I got a chance to use it!  Since it wasn’t exactly picnic weather, we had our soup and sandwich picnic on the floor, in front of the fireplace.  Just pretend that these are all over-head shots, and I just didn’t take any photos revealing the table legs under the scape/top (they really are overhead shots, because I didn’t lay on the floor to get any of these photos!)
wine stem
The stems, the plates, the flatware, the plaid napkins, and the plaid covering on the floor were all inside the picnic basket.
flatware
duck plate
The individual soup tureens were from the Williams Sonoma outlet last year.
npkn rng
I purchased the napkin rings at an estate sale several years ago.
tureen
The soup tureen and the plate under it were from different estate sales, and the carved duck was a vacation purchase years ago.
pcnc cookies
So….if there is no table under it, is it a tablescape?  If it’s on the floor, is it a table top? (And is a tablescape a vignette?  - Nope, I know I’m pushing my luck with that one!  I’ll try anything for the chance to participate in a party!)
misc
I’m pretty sure it’s okay to link this post to Junkin Finds at A La Carte, since everything I used came from a re-sale store or from an estate sale or outlet store.  But, I may be cheating by linking this post to Table Top Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life and Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch.  I know that Marty and Susan are too sweet to kick me out of their parties, so I’m going to go ahead and crash their parties with a “tableless” post [maybe they won’t notice there isn’t a table, or anything but the floor, under my scape]!  I think it’s okay to link this post to Seasonal Sundays at The Tablescaper, since it is a winter picnic.

I’d really appreciate it if you wouldn’t tattle on me.  I just can’t help myself.  I’m a party gal, and I wanna join the parties.  Let’s just keep it our little secret that I am linking a “tableless” post. Thanks so much! (By the way, it only took me and my sweetheart about 10 minutes to get up off the floor after dinner – we’re so proud of ourselves!)  laurie

Laurie, you are making me wish I live there! What a fun "table-less scape"! I love an indoor picnic! I gotta do one soon. We actually had a wienie and mallow roast in the fireplace in the FR, but the camera was too far away! and I was too cold. lol

Laurie, you are totally amazing. I would never dream of a picnic by the fire, but this is totally incredible. You have the most wonderful pieces for a picnic, the basket, dishes the little benches and of course the throw. Your little tureens are unreal also. Well can you tell I love it all. Amazing. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

Oh Laurie -- I love your tableless tabletop! Only you! What a great basket too!

I know I'm not the host of either of those parties, but if I were, I would still love your fireside picnic!! Actually I don't think anyone could possibly think that the missing "table" is in anyway, shape, or form an important element here! You've got table linen, utensils, dishes, whimsey, ambiance, and light from an actual fire....who needs a table?

Glenda/MidSouth said...

Love the picnic in front of the fire.
Only 10 mins. ?!?! If I got done on the floor to eat and take pictures, y'all may not hear from me for a very long time. That commercial with the words "I can't get up" words should be taken more seriously. :-D
Great post!
Enjoy your week.

Laurie, I love the idea of a picnic in front of the fireplace. I think you may have started a new trend.
Guess the basket and its contents will eventually get to the hunting camp, but why not enjoy it while it's with you. :-)

CRACKIN' ME UP!!! I got the worst case of the giggles reading about joining the parties. Oh, how I wish I had more courage to join more of them. I just sit with my nose pressed to the window instead. Good grief.

I LOVE this. My husband would think it was nice, too. I'm almost positive that he would grin WITH me and not AT me if he showed up on Friday night to this surprise.

I want to put a picture of it on my blog. I hope that's OK. Let me know if not. I've already shouted it out without a picture.

What a cool picnic basket and I love all the plaid linens in it. How awesome to picnic inside the house. You are the only one who would be creative enough to think of that. Yes, Laurie, that sure qualifies for a tabletop or tablescape in my book since I do an under the table tabletop, I guess that would be a floor top too.....Christine

Very clever, dearie! Anything in front of the fireplace is fine by me, and I totally relate to the getting up part!

Jacqueline said...

No, don't let them men take this, it is way too gorgeous and they won't care for it the way it should be cared for. What a treasure and all the little ducks on the handles and glassware, wow. I love a picnic or dinner in front of the fireplace, so beautiful and this basket just takes it over the top!

Yes, it does take a little more time to get up but it still is fun as long as we can do it!!!!

Hi Laurie...

Girlfriend, you just crack me up! Here it is 1:30 in the morning and I'm just a giggling! Hoping not to wake up Russell! Hehe! Well dear friend, I really do think you are the clever one...and I definitely think that your fabulous picnic is just perfect to Table Top Tuesday and Tablescape Thursday! This really is the coolest idea for sharing a meal..in the middle of winter...that I have heard of! It makes me want to spread a blanket out on my floor and pack the picnic basket! Hmmm...come to think of it...that would make a really sweet Valentine's day celebration! wink! Laurie, I just love this "Ducks Unlimited" picnic basket! Aren't the plates and flatware...ohhh, and the glasses...just fabulous? And I love the pretty plaid napkins and blanket! Girlfriend, will your fellows really enjoy and appreciate this pretty basket? I have to agree with Jacqueline's comment (just above mine)...I think you should keep it! Hehe!

Well sweet friend, I thoroughly enjoyed your fabulous and innovative tabletop tablescape this week! You always make my heart smile, Darlin'! It has been awhile since I have been by to visit. I hope that my note finds you and your family all doing well!

Love ya,
Chari

What a GREAT idea! My kids would absolutely love this as they are really missing the outdoors lately. As for the picnic basket, there is NO way that I would let my husband loose with that - he would dump the contents and turn it into an amo box in no time. Boys.

Sweet Mister would not make it out the door with that wonderful picnic basket. After supper on the floor, it would end up as a centerpiece for one of my tablescapes. Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay

Laurie~ I think an indoor picnic in front of the fireplace can be just as romantic as an outdoor setting.
This may be utilize for Valentines day too. It beats heading out in the cold foraging for a V-day restaurant dinner.
