IT’S ALL ABOUT COFFEE, TEA, AND ME

silversunday2[2] I’m linking to Gypsy Fish for Silver Sunday.

This tin coffee maker belonged to my grandmother. Can you see the engraving on it? This modern convenience is called a “Drip-O-Lator.

Mother’s more modern coffee maker was a percolator.

I got this cute little coffee/tea maker with the blue and white server from Vanna at Delusions of Grandeur.sug crmr crop-vert

This hammered aluminum sugar and creamer belonged to my mother. There is a lid to the sugar server around here somewhere, but my grandchildren play with this set all of the time, and although I found the sugar and creamer in their little play hutch, I couldn’t find the lid.

Just a little tea pot, short and stout. With a basket handle and a graceful spout.

This server is the part of the post about me! Lately, I’ve been reminded several times of something my mother always told me - “never say never”! A couple of weeks ago, I told you that I have a lot of silver stored away, because I don’t like polishing it. I spotted this silver plated server at a flea market the other day, and I BOUGHT IT! Yes! You read that right. I bought silver after saying I do not polish silver. It was such a bargain (probably because it is in such bad condition). The way I looked at it, this piece was too far gone to worry about having to polish it! One time, Joni at Cote De Texas showed several beautiful hotel-type servers in her dining room. They are decoration on her table and buffet. Of course, since I think anything Joni does is wonderful, I thought I’d try to mimic Joni’s with a smaller version. Now I’m eating my words about all of my silver being hidden away! It’s really all Joni’s fault. You want to see what I'm serving on my new server today?

Don't forget to go to Gypsy Fish for links to silver all over Blogville (these other bloggers actually show beautifully polished silver). Thank you so much for visiting my blog. laurie

Hey Sweet Laurie, And here I thought I was the only person up in the middle of the night. :) Have missed visiting you...I'm back to the yoyo here and there visits. I just miss being on here, but work has just been deliriously crazy with my banks merger and all. So, here I am, trying to catch up with visiting. I haven't even posted since 1/15. I'm so bad... :( Love your silver goodies, and especially the nostalgic ones. Anything with a memory makes it my favorite, despite whether it's the prettiest or not. :) Have a blessed Sunday friend.... It's chilly here in GA, can't wait till spring and hearing the birdies. Hugs~ ~CC Catherine

Great post, Laurie. I love the coffee pots. I remember making coffee on the stop top. Never could get it quite right. J is the coffee maker here. We served on the church hospitality committee for several years, for hospitality Sunday. He always made the coffee in those big ol' coffee makers. It was always just right.

He just brought me my first cup of coffee, this morning. So good!

Becky continues to be the same. Continued prayers appreciated. Thanks!

I love those vintage coffee pots Laurie! DH's grandmother always used a stove top coffee maker, refused to drink coffee made in the Mr. Coffee the family gave her! And I love the server you found, it's gorgeous! Kathy

Oh Laurie, I got so excited when I saw that little teapot! My Grandma had one just like that, sitting on a shelf behind the woodstove, and I would sit back there and play with it, and my daughter played with it when she was little too. Thanks for the great memories!

Hi Laurie, Happy Sunday! These pots 'n things are absolutely wonderful. The best part tho, is that so many of your pieces are direct links to your mother and grandmother. Having old things that belonged to one's family is a joy that I wish I had more of. I have a very few things that belonged to my mom and even fewer that belonged to my grandmother, but those I do have I treasure. My things have sentimental value only....my grandmother's cast iron skillet....my mom's Toby jug that was broken and re-glued (badly)....my grandfather's crucifix that might have originally belonged to his father. None of them very special on their own (there was no money in my family for things like silver or crystal), but they have immense value to me....just as your pots must have for you!

Never say never are good words to live by! The server is a great find: such detail and a cover. It also looks like it polished up beautifully. I wish you could have seen my finds before I polished them. I tell you they were black as coal. Silver is an amazing metal. That's just one of the reasons I'm a silver addict. Happy Silver Sunday!

Laurie, I would have bought that server too. I remember seeing those on Joni Webb's dining room table too and loved it. I'm glad you found one, even though you said "never!" -Delores

It is so wonderful that you inherited a lot of your mom's and grandma's silver. I like everything you post because you always have a story to tell about them. No baby yet (except for the big baby), Laurie. I just got here tonight...Christine

Laurie, I love percolators I can still hear the sound they make. It is a sound you never forget. I kind of miss that. Maybe I should look for one and try it out. It always smelled so good on Sat mornings. Love all of your silver pieces, the ones from you Mom are especially nice. Thank you so much for reading through several of my post and then letting me know how much you enjoyed them. Now that I am blogging I realize how important it is to leave the author a comment. I feel badly for not leaving comments in the past. I am learning a lot doing this blog. We sure do have a wonderful community out there. Hugs Kathysue

Hi Lauri,
What beautiful silver, I especially love the coffee pot that belonged to your Grandmother. When I was first married in 1972 I received several silver chafing dishes. I immediately exchanged them for something more trendy. The foolishness of youth. I am glad that your package arrived safely. I just love Raggedy Ann too.

Girlfriend is there anything you don't have a fabulous collection of? No seriously I mean it! I was so thrilled to see the little espresso maker you got from me awwwwww! It's in some pretty lofty company! But at least it's blue and white *winks* And I'm with ya on that not wanting to polish silver. Like you I rarely if ever use it. If only I could win that lottery and have a person to polish it for me....life would be a dream! Lol! Just kiddin'...they'd need to do windows too! And that's a great silver tray! I've seen where people have painted them with blackboard paint and hung them up with french ribbon when the surface is really scratched and they look so charming. So I'm on the hunt! Vanna
