(And not just because I am posting pictures of my long hallway!)
Today I am sharing my hallway with you. Remember, I grew up in this house. Growing up, I always thought this hallway was kind of dark. When we remodeled the house, I couldn't add any windows to an interior hallway, so I painted it a fairly bright color. When my electrician saw it, he said, "Wow! You don't need to add any lights in this hallway -- but you will need to keep a box of sunglasses at each end of the hallway, so you can put them on before you start down the hall! Okay, so maybe I over-brightened it!
Of course, I couldn't leave all of this space without a place to display something, so I asked my husband to build ledges for photographs on each side of the hallway.
I didn't want to hang the photos on the walls, because I correctly assumed that I'd want to change them occasionally. As it turns out, I change them more frequently than occasionally.
This is the telephone niche in the hallway. My builder wanted to close it up, since he thought it wasn't useful any longer. Not useful, I yelled! That is a shelf where I can put some stuff! DO NOT close it up!
The Asian screen belonged to my Mother-In-Law. We don't know what happened to it, but there was a splotch at the top of it when we inherited it. That's why I have little tassels across the top of it. One tassel conceals the splotch. The other's just keep that one from looking so lonely.
I cannot wait to show you what I got in the mail Friday.
All of you other bloggers are always getting mail and sharing the unwrapping of your treasures. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and admit to you that this is a reenactment. I knew what was in this box, and there was no way I could stop to take pictures before I opened the box!
See, I put that cute envelope back into the box (just like it was when I opened it).
Look at this darling card, which I'm trying to act like I've just seen for the first time! This card is suitable for framing!
Now I'm going to tell you why I didn't get this post done yesterday. We took a little trip to a couple of estate sales. The sales were about an hour from our home. The weatherman was predicting some snow, but that wasn't going to stop me from convincing my sweet husband that we NEEDED to go to these estate sales. While we were shopping estate sales, we didn't realize that, at our home an hour away, the snow had arrived! You have to understand that I grew up here, and I've never seen it snow like this here! We think there are about 12 inches of that white stuff! Our one hour trip home took 3 hours, and by the time I got home, I was too exhausted to think about posting anything on my blog!
I know some of you live in areas where this is normal, but it's not normal here, so please indulge me while I share some pictures of, what we, in NE Arkansas, consider a HUGE snowfall! We're lovin' it (now that we're not trying to drive in it!)

Most of the time, when I receive an award, my first thought is" "I don't deserve this". But Shelia at Note Songs has given me an award that I DO deserve. Hi! My name is Laurie, and I am a Dishaholic! Isn't that the prettiest award? Of course, I think anything with dishes in it is pretty. Shelia, I love this award. Thank you so much! Of course, I don't need to tell anybody to go see Sheila's blog, because I think EVERYBODY in Blogville knows their way to Shelia's wonderful blog!
RULES FOR THIS AWARD:
1. Post on Blog with link back to awarder.2. Award to 5 deserving Dishaholics (they can receive this award a million times and if you think they are a closet dishaholic, give it to them!) Name them for their inspiring taste and display of dishes. The dishes can be displayed anywhere in or around their home.3. Name your favorite set of dishes/pattern that you own.4. Name a set of dishes/pattern that you DO NOT own, but would like to own.5. List a favorite accessory (stems, silver, flatware, etc.)
My favorite set of dishes: Oh, this is hard for a Dishaholic, because I love all of the dishes I have AND all of the dishes everyone else has! But, I guess this is part of working through my addiction, so if I have to name one set for my own good, I'm going to say Apple Blossom by Ridgways, England.
My favorite set of dishes that I would like to own: Oh My! I am failing miserably at this 5 step program for Dishaholics. I hope that this admission will help me in my program: I have coveted almost every set of dishes I have seen on every blog on Tablescape Thursday and on Tablescape Tuesday before that. (Do you think I'm a hopeless case -- is there any help for someone like me?)
My favorite accessory: Now, this may redeem me a little. My favorite accessory is the food! Oh No! Now I've brought up my other addiction for which I need help -- my eating addiction! I know, I know, this post is already too long- that's another story for another day!
All of you plate addicts, please pick up this award. Remember, admitting you have a problem is the first step! (Even if you are like me and don't want to be cured!) My friend, Susie, who doesn't have a blog, should also consider herself awarded the Dishaholic Award!
~~~~~~~~~~
Heidi Pocketbook (isn't that the cutest blogger name?) @ Bargain Hunting in the Corn gave me the Sisterhood Award. This award has been presented to me by other bloggers, and it still feels very special to get it from another blogger. The passing of this award to others just proves how quickly this wonderful blogging sisterhood is growing, and I love that! Heidi, thank you so much for this honor. If you don't already visit Heidi's blog, you should go give her wonderful blog a visit.
~~~~~~~~~
LdyDy Loves Cake at Roses, Cakes and Pearls, gave me this wonderful "Let's Be Friends" Award! When we began blogging, I don't think any of us (especially me) ever thought that we would be meeting so many wonderful friends! It is absolutely amazing that I feel so close to people whom I have never met in person! The description for this award is: “These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.” Also put a link to their blogs and then let them know they have been selected. LdyDy thank you so much for honoring me with your friendship and with this award! All of you probably already visit her blog, but if you don't please go see their fabulous blog. I'd like to pass this award along to Connie at My Thoughts and Creations. Please go visit Connie's lovely blog.
Thanks so much for coming by and for putting up with my long post today (Remember, this was supposed to get posted yesterday. It's hard for me to keep my blog quiet for this long -- it's just like my mouth!)(Believe me, this could have been a lot longer! I edited it before I published!)

Oh Laurie,
I just love love what you did to your hallway! You took a boring hallway and made it into something so special!! I love the ledges with all the pics and the beautiful color you picked. Great job and congrats on the awards, you deserve them. Cindy
Laurie - I was THIS close to snagging up that tassel from Nancy and got the adorable pear one instead. Lucky for you! Aren't her tassels great? I'm gonna have to order another one. Your hallway is stunning! I just told hubby yesterday that I want to repaint my mudroom and nice bright sunny yellow~! I loved your re-enactment by the way - HA!
Kim
Laurie- Congratulations on all your awards!
The hallway looks fantastic- It almost looks like there is a fireplace there with your shelves and the screen from you MIL. Very clever!
Hey that snow belongs to us- send it back! We haven't gotten snow in several weeks and it looks like it is going to be a dry on for us- which is not good in the least!

Congratulations on your awards, you so deserve them! I love your hallway, and your electrician needs to have his head examined, the color is wonderful. I love the shelves for the pictures, such a great idea. And the comment about the telephone niche - you crack me up! Love the tassel, and this post was NOT too long, you had lots to share! Hugs, Kathy
Hi Laurie, You can share your space any ol' time and I'll be glad to see it. Your hallway is fab! I love those picture shelves. I also adore the trim and mouldings on your doorways. I never would have known there was a spot on your screen I just thought the tassels were an added bonus! Congrats on your awards, you deserve them all! ~ Robyn
I love your hallway, what a wonderful job you did on it,we are in the central part of Arkansas and got a light dusting of snow but that was a suprise because friday I had on flip flops oh well thats Arkansas....Barb
I don't think you ramble on in your blog - you are just full of info that needs to be shared. I always enjoy every word. Love your hall. I, too, have shelves like yours in my long dark hall, but mine don't look as well put together. Must work on that!! Sally
Love the molding above the doors and the black knobs. Love the hallway!
It's snowing here in the upstate of SC. :)
Love your description of driving in the snow ... you are right ~ after 24 years in Minneapolis, I've seen it all and lived through it. Your snow looks like a picture out of a book. And, as usual, you have thoroughly entertained me with your wit ...
could your husband come to OR and make me some shelves ????
I just loved this post. I felt like I as on a trip. The home and hall is amazing.
I also loved your tassel how beautiful.
My husband is from Arkansas and has many relatives there.I haven't heard how much know that got. Yours is beautiful.
OMG Laurie! More snow? You sure had your share fo snow this year! At least you did not lose your power this time. What did you get from the estate sale? I'm dying to find out!
I love what you did to your hall. It looks very interesting, instead of just a boring passage through. Love the tassels and the new bird tassel!...I also love the mouldings above your doors....Christine
Hi Laurie, Love your hallway and really LOVE the color, Bright? No way.lol! It's just right. The shelf idea is perfect for all your pictures.
The tassel Nancy made is just precious! She is so good at making those.
I can't believe the snow! We got flurries over here in the west and it's just plain cold! Next week it's supposed to be in the 70s and maybe even 80s. Wow! Can't wait. Talk to you soon, Kristen
You got more than we did! I think we got about 6 inches maybe! I love your hallway and that color is perfect! And don't you know you deserve every award you get! I wondered what you were doing? I missed you! More tassels! It's adorable and looks perfect on your door knob! I've given all mine away or sold them. I promised a couple of people I'd do a how-to on my blog...guess I need to get to work! Love Ya! Lauralu :)
Big CONGRATS on your well deserved awards!! :) i LOVE your hallway! sounds weird even typing that!lol
you sure got plenty of snow there! wow!! looks pretty but is no fun having to deal with it, like driving somewhere! Glad you got home safe! :) Thank you for ALL that you share! i totally enjoy you and could have EASILY read more if you typed more! hehe :) Have a FANTASTIC weekend!
Your hallway is just beautiful. Were the pediments over the doors originally, or did you do that when you remodeled? Nice touch, and they compliment the ledges or the ledges compliment them.
Great snow pictures. I saw a picture of The Red Barn with 12" of snow on Facebook, but I wasn't sure if it was from this year. That's a bunch of snow.
Your hallway is beautiful...those picture shelves are exactly what I've been wanting for years. Now I can show someone exactly what I want.
Thanks for allowing us to be a small part of your life.
Becky
Yoo-hoo Laurie...This was a wonderful post...yours can't be too long for me! The hallway looks fab...and the snow you had is so pretty! We've been really cold here in our part of Texas...but we're dry...so no pretty stuff...
enjoy, while you can! Stay cozy...
;-)Bo
I have been a faithful stalker of your blog and remember your pretty home from RMS. TODAY I had to comment- I MUST HAVE THE EXACT REPLICA OF THE TASSEL YOU BOUGHT FROM NANCY-it is my style and the colors in my family room! Thanks for your wonderful blog it keeps me so entertained :o)

RMS "caniquitmyjobanddecorate"
Evening, Laurie! Oh, I've enjoyed myself so much with your long post! I get so into it, I feel like you're talking away to me. I love your nice bright hallway! The ledges are great for your pictures!
Snow!! Wow! It's beautiful. I know I would be so excited too!
You're so very welcome on the award and looky - so many more for the most wonderful one!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
I love your long hallway, those shelves are perfect for pictures!! I do not blame you for keeping that niche; it is definitely prime real estate!!! Your tassel is so, so, so cute!!! That is a lot of snow, but boy does it look beautiful. I would love to see that sight here in south Texas. And, congrats on the award.
Laurie next time you're coming to Memphis you better let me know! Just think of the blogging post we could make at Graceland!!!!!LOL God Bless! Lauralu :)
Estate Sale = more dishes = happy dish-aholic! Makes a perfect ending in a day filled with cold white fluff.
It does look so pretty and glistens so beautifully in the moonlight.
Sweet Wishes,
Sara
P.S. Oops, I wanted to let you know how inspiring the hallway shelf was to me. I love the flexibility in changing out pictures without adding a million nail holes to the wall. You could swap seasonal family Christmas card photos with other holidays. This is a great way to display them.
The paint color you chose is so creamy. It lends the perfect ambiance.
Sweet Wishes,
Sara
I really like the way you are using your hallway as a picture gallery. The flexibility offered by your shelves is a very smart idea. Makes it much easier to change your mind on your arrangements.
We ended up with mostly slush where I live from this latest front moving toward the East coast. Feel really sorry for the Eastern seaboard for the next few days. It changed over from rain to snow here, so it didn't really accumulate very much. More messy than pretty like yours. This has truly been a strange weather year.
Your tassel is gorgeous. Love the bird. He looks wonderful on the door to your linen closet.
DEAR LAURIE,
I LOVE, LOVE YOUR BLOG AND YOU.
YOU KEEP ME INFORMED, AND IN STITCHES FROM LAUGHING SO HARD.
I LOVE YOUR HALLWAY...I LOVE THAT IT IS BRIGHT...USUALLY HALLWAYS ARE VERY DARK AND YOUR NEW BEAUTIFUL TASSLE WILL BE JUST PERFECT.
THE SNOW PICTURES WERE BEAUTIFUL...EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT FUN TO DRIVE IN IT.
I AGREE WITH ANN...YOU DID NOT SAY WHAT YOU PURCHASED AT THE ESTATE SALES????????
HUGS
BLESSINGS
debbie
Your hallway is beautiful! I love the idea of ledges and am going to put my husband onto the idea. It really makes a lovely presentation. Congratulations on your awards and the birdie tassell is precious! Linda
I'm so excited and Jealous you got snow!! We had around 12" about 8 years ago and I still remember how exciting...and pretty it was!
I LOVE you hallway! I don't think the yellow is too bright at all...and what a great color to put in ANY hallway! I'm so glad you didn't get rid of the telephone niche...it's pretty and adds a sense of history. Love the display shelves too!
Congrats on your awards! :-) L~
Congrats on your awards AND your snow! I think its so funny all these states are getting what is normal for us. AND we didnt get any snow this weekend which I'm so grateful for. It sure is pretty isnt it?
I love the fact that you grew up in your home--how neat is that? Your hallway is not to bright I think its cheery and personal and full of love and memories.
We hit an estate sale also this weekend-I got some neat very old kitchen toys for my grandaughters to play with. I will clean em up and post those..maybe that will be tomorrows post.
So, so pretty and just the right color for a hallway. Love the picture shelves and the wonderful pediment moldings over each door... and so clever to incorporate tassels to conceal damage to that lovely screen. My goodness, the snow, it sure is beautiful and I am so glad you didn't lose your power again. How fun for the kids, glad you got home safe. Love, Cindy
Hi Laurie! Love the hallway! Your snow makes our snow look like nothing! Congrats on the awards! Deb
Mornin' Girlfriend...
Ohhh my...here we are supposed to be getting in the 60's and close to 70 this week in colorful Colorado! Can't believe that you guys got that much snow in Arkansas...WOW!!! Sure is pretty though! I see that all of the southern states got hit by snow!
Well my friend, I absolutely love what you did in your hallway!!! I love that you put up shelves to display all of your family photos...that is so much prettier than just hanging them!!! What a GRAND idea!!! Love the shelf with the lamps on it too...you're so creative and talented, Laurie!!! If I had a long hall like yours, I would certainly be gettin' busy doing it the same way...just love it!!! And...I love your pretty bird tassel...it's just gorgeous and what a fabulous way to dress up that door!!!
Well my friend, hope that my little note finds you well today! Have a marvelous Monday!
Love ya,
Chari
PS...Congrats on all of your lovely awards!!!
I like your hallway; it's interesting.
"I am proud to accept my Dishaholic Award..and would like to thank my mother for giving me that gene..my mother who taught school for 28 years so she could order the Wedgewood Hust pattern from the Williamsburg catalog..took her years to get it all. Now, it proudly sits in her china cabinet in my dining room..with a couple of other sets of dishes..Ok, Ok, about 10 other sets..but I love hers the best."Susie
UH OH...It looks like I've been setting a very bad example LOL. But I do so appreciate the linky love! We should be ashamed of ourselves hehehe. And Laurie...you know we love you ever so much...but you need to alter the picture of the box that gorgeous tassel came in. We can all see where you live and now we're going to be tempted to come over and "borrow" all your wonderful decorations!!! Ya need to delete or blur that photo out lady. I'm pretty sure Shelia can't be trusted with all your beautiful dishes!
Your hallway is fabulous, just like the rest of your beautiful home!
Thanks for the dish award, Laurie. It's the first for me this month!
You are not that far away from me. We heard the lake got the snow. We didn't get any here. I haven't watched the news or anything to see if the lake got much, though.
J and I recalled, we spent the night in your lovely town 2 or 3 years ago. We were coming back from a trip east. Don't remember where...but we thought we'd stop in your town before coming home. Next day when we arrived home, just about three hours after leaving your fair city, we wondered why we were too tired to drive that extra three hours. I guess we thought we were farther away from home, than we were!!
*****NEWSLASH, girlfriend!***** My Orvis "lazy susan" was just delivered! Only "problem" is, I can barely lift it up (it's outside on the front porch, and oh my goodness, that THANG is HEAVY!!!). Can't wait to open it & see which "wine label" it has~~~ lemme know when yours comes, ok? XO, Linda
Hi there......enjoyed your post. I think your hallway is awesome...I love those little telephone nooks. And that snow is CRAZY; HOW FUN!
OH Laurie I would have been blocking that wonderful telephone table and telling that guy "You touch it I'll sing!!" Heh heh that would SURE keep him away from it! *winks* What a wonderful feature! And what a gorgeous house! The hallway is the PERFECT shade of bright! And 12" IS a lot of snow! We get snow here a few times a year usually, but not THAT much snow! So kick back, cozy up and enjoy it!*winks* OH and girl that tassel is adorable!! But maybe it's just me *gulps* and that birdie looks a little like chocolate...so I'm tempted to bite it's head off....sorry I seem to be a little "chocolate" obsessed.....Vanna
~Beautiful hallway Laurie!
It's warm and cozy with the gorgeous flooring and all the family photos.
Aren't Miss Nancy's tassels just the prettiest?
I love your new one!
~Melissa :)
Laurie, leave it to you to take a boring hallway, anbd make it beautiful! In the first pic, with the lamps on the ledge, and the screen below it, I actually thought it was a fireplace, Love it! Love the tassel, also, and your home just looks lovely even without the snow! Love Ya! Connie
wow, you showed some great things today. I loved the wall of love and the bird tassel, so cute.
Laurie, I thought a hall was just a hall. Yours is so lovely and functional. I like the way you arranged your pictures. What color and brand is it - if you remember ? So elegant, yet now you have it working for you.
Will get back to you shortly -- getting cabin fever with our snowstorms ! Good day to do taxes ah, ha.....
Sorry you got socked, but you need to familiarize yourself with the white stuff. If it only was warm snow we wouldn't mind at all.
Okay, Laurie...I read the post (I don't think I missed anything, but it's possible)...I'm wanting to know what did you get at the estate sale?!? Inquiring minds want to know! I'm sure it was worth all 3 hours of driving back!
Laurie, I really enjoyed this post. That hallway could have come out of BH&G magazine. You have the touch, sweet thing! I laughed out loud over the builder wanting to box up that telephone shelf! I would have said the same thing. It really adds character to your hall, doesn't it?
Love the tassel!
Donna
P.S. Thank you sincerely for your compliment on my blog about the arrangement!
congrats on your awards darling.. Your hallway is wonderful. I love the shelves..what a great way to change out pictures quickly. What treasures did you get at the estate sale girl? I'm sure you came away with a few bargains.. love the tassle...hugs ~lynne~

OhhhLaurie, I loooove your hallway! The hardwood floors look so nice and the hall is done so lovely. I also love estate sales and cannot wait to go to one again. Congrat on all the awards. I too, am a dishaholic, however,I will pass on the award1 LOL! I heard about all the snow. THANK GOD, we did not get anymore. It is still very frigid here, but it is supposed to be in the high 40's by the end of the week. It is so hard to blog when I don't have a workable computer. I still am going to the library to use theirs until I can buy one.
Great posting!
ginny
thank you for your really nice comment on my grandma post. I'm so glad for you that you were given great parents..what a gift.

YOu got all that snow? Oh my goodness. YOu have more snow than we have right now. Well I hope you are enjoying it...your pictures are really good.

Sorry you are getting all that snow. It snowed in Dothan, Alabama about an hour from here but we did not get any Praise the Lord! I was gonna say your patio furniture is so white it looks like it needs some colorful slipcovers LOL but the snow is beautiful too!
Your hallway is amazing!!
Have a beautiful day!
Love Lilly
First congrats on all those awards. Second, I think you have the most beautiful hallway I've ever seen!! I love yellow and that yellow is gorgeous. I love your shelf with all the pictures. I'd do something like that too if I wasn't afraid my husband would knock into them. We go some snow too but now as much as you! It was fun while it lasted (ours is all gone).
Manuela
Congrats on your awards! Dish Aholic is such an honor! I love your hallway! It's is bright, we shorten our long one, and its dark! I need to go bright too! Wow. that was some kind of snow! So pretty! We just got dusted with snow. I love Nancy tassle she made for you! I need to get her to make me a bluebird one. lol
hi laurie!, thanks for coming by my little blog....love you house only in my dreams i could ever have such beautiful home..loved the pic of the pool covered with snow, you dont see that very often here because people close their pools for the winter, what a pretty sight!....have a great week and i'll be back of course...xx.
Love the crown molding above your doors, it's very striking and classy. And I bet you could even put a few doodads on top of it if you wanted to ... it looks like a neat place to drape with a swag or garland in the fall and winter.
Victoria
That little birdy door hanger is adorable, very cute!
This afternoon it was trying to snow here, but it just flaked. You however got a winter wonderland. It looks like it could be a postcard.
