FIREPLACE PAINTED

Painted Fireplace-Bargain Decorating with Laurie

When I get out of the shower or tub, I need extra heat in the bathroom, but I didn't like the look of a space heater.  My Mother had a faux fireplace that she used on a screened porch, so I put the space heater in the opening of that fireplace.

This was a very inexpensive fireplace, and it had not held up well.  Some of it was weathered down to the bare wood, and I  had to keep a scarf on top of it to cover the watermarks.

This allows me to have the space heater next to the bathtub and directly across from the shower.  I painted the fireplace with Annie Sloan Graphite and then waxed it with Annie Sloan clear wax and then dark wax.  It really isn't as blue as it looks in these pictures, and I like the way it turned out.

You may remember that, long ago, I shared about these silhouettes that are on the mantel.

These are The Four Seasons by Fidus.  For some reason, my Grandmother had Spring and Summer. I don't know if that is all she ever had, or if Autumn and Winter were lost at some point.

I was so surprised to find Autumn at a yard sale a couple of years ago.  I can find a set of four on Ebay, but I don't want to buy a whole set.  Maybe I'll be lucky enough to find Winter some day.  For now, Autumn is propped on top of the mantel.  If I ever find the fourth season, I'll hang Autumn and Winter with Spring and Summer.

I'm laughing about the time on the clock in these photos.  I took the "before" picture one day, and the next day, I took the "after" pictures in early afternoon.  Later that afternoon, I went in the bathroom and thought the light was better, so I took some more.  If you noticed the time on the clock, you probably thought I spent my whole day in the bathroom.

I'm really liking the look of my "new" fireplace", and I sure do appreciate you coming by to see it.

The fireplace looks great in the bathroom. How nice to get out of the shower or tub to nice warm room. I like your choice of color for it.
Have a great week, hope your not getting any of the cold weather going around.

What a neat idea for a bathroom- I never would have thought to add a faux fireplace unit but it looks quite fabulous! I'm really intrigued by the curtain fabric with the tub- very elegant and the way you did the window !
