THE DANGERS OF SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!

fav_thngs_cmbnd_thumb[1][1] Let me shed a little light on the meaning of the title of this post.  Some of my favorite things are hanging from the ceilings in our home.  I love chandeliers, but have you ever tried to photograph them?  I was willing to risk life and limb to photograph some chandeliers in our home.  I climbed on a ladder and clicked at eye level.  The lights from the chandelier blinded me, so I had to climb down the ladder without being able to see anything but a bright light.  (I’m not very graceful even when I can see).  Since it was hard to decide whether the lights should be on or off for the photos, I went up  the ladder to snap with the lights on; down the ladder to turn the lights off….You get the picture.  I can make the easiest job complicated!

Since our master bedroom used to be the formal living room, this chandelier matches the one in our study (which used to be the dining room).  I told you I could complicate things.  When I hung my mother’s, my grandmother’s, and my  mother-in-law’s pearls (real and faux) from the chandelier, my husband wanted to know if it was already time to celebrate Mardi Gras.  He’s either grown accustomed to them, or he’s decided to give up trying to persuade me that this looks wild, because the pearls have been there for years, and I have not heard anything else about our bedroom looking like a Mardi Gras celebration.
I hope that these pearls (which were worn around the neck in a prior life) will count as my submission to the Prior Lives event.  Don’t forget to go to Prior on Sunday to find links to see the clever ways bloggers re-use all kinds of things.

I appreciate your visit to my blog, and I hope you’ll go visit the other bloggers who have linked up for Favorite Things Saturday.  You’ll be glad you did.  laurie

Whoa! Look at me! Strutting around because I was first to the party! Oh, wait, the first always has to help the hostess do all those last minute things. Okay, so what I really am doing is just dropping off my post but, now I have to race home and get dressed for the party. Yeah, that's it!

I just adore all your chandys Laurie (I swear, when I type out the word "adore", I feel like I should be looking out a penthouse view.......very Green Acre-ish"). all the same I really do think they are all just beautiful!

You have some pretty chandeliers. Tues. I spent a lot of time staring at light fixtures at L's and came out empty handed. I need 2 and I am tired of looking. I hope to get a post up for tomorrow, but don't know for sure.
Have a great weekend.

Love the family jewels, but really love the fact that your husband hasn't commented again in all these years. Sometimes my husband doesn't even notice such things. Love all your wonderful light fixtures. Light fixtures and jewelry are consider the jewelry of a home. I do think yours qualify.

Laurie, All of your chandeliers are beautiful but the family room one I am in love with! Hubby refuses to give up the ceiling fan in our bedroom but oh how I want a chandy. I guess I shouldn't complain because he is a good sport about sleeping in a girly, toile bedroom!

Sherry

Hi Laurie! Your chandeliers are stunning!! As I was reading your post I was thinking is that what you need is to have them motorized. Push a switch and you can raise and lower them for cleaning and for photo taking too. Not sure how to do that, but wouldn't it be handy?? Aside from the chandeliers, I also love your shades.

Thanks for being a gracious hostess and inviting us to attend your Favorite Things Saturday!!

Love,
Susan and Bentley

You have some serious bling going on from the ceilings :) I love the family room one!!! The pearls are nice touch--as long as they are not green and purple beads :) Glad you made it up and down safely !

Oh Laurie, I love all the chandys in your home! I have Two, yes, two in my home and they are not pretty at all. Yours have a story to them, mine don't.
Oh well, I like to see all the treasures in your home.

Laurie,

First let me say I love your new header. Breathtaking!

Next I have to tell you I chuckled reading about you taking pics with the lights on and off, going up an down the ladder (blinded by the light) and then your comment about grace. I got such a laugh. I'd do something like that myself...and have!

Thirdly, I love this post...great idea, unique and clever. It was fun touring the lights around your home but now I'm really wanted to see more of the family room and ceiling!

Have a great day, and thanks for hosting,

Nancy

Laurie, I just love this! LOVE it! And I wish that Kari and Kija's shop was still open. Didn't they have the cutest things? And those candles! LOVE them. I saw them on Debbie's blog, but I am so uncrafty that I would probably make a giant mess if I tried to replicate them. Glad to know a source.

Love your boudoir!

XO,

Sheila :-)

Chandi’s Classic chandeliers are reminiscent of the old world tradition of lighting. The shapes themselves are reproductions of vintage chandeliers and Meredith’s original designs based on certain elements, particular to this style of Contemporary Lighting, that have inspired her.
