AN OUT OF THIS WORLD PARTY

Outer Space Party-Bargain Decorating with Laurie

Our church family is blessed to have a talented and dedicated team of volunteers who work with our youth. With the assistance of our choir director, twice a year our youth and a lot of volunteers rehearse for months to produce a play for our church members and others in the community. The rockets on the tables are swim toys that I found at Dirt Cheap.

This past Wednesday, their production was Blast Off, which revolved around a child's dream of going to outer space. There is always an after-party for play participants and audience members.

I was in charge of décor for the after-party this week. I purchased most of the décor at Oriental Trading on line.

If I need to buy in bulk for children, that's where I always head, because their bulk prices are fabulous. (I did dig out my Christmas décor for stars to hang from the ceiling with the planets from O.T.) This is not a sponsored post. Most of you have shopped O.T., but if you haven't you'll want to check it out when you need a lot of favors or decorations for a children's party.

Of course, this launch and space shuttle didn't come from Oriental Trading. I shouldn't tell you this. That toy belonged to our son when he was a child. Yes, he is now adult with four children of his own. Yes, I've kept it in the attic all these years. His Uncle Dave won it in prize drawing. Not having children of his own, he gifted it to our lucky son. I didn't keep all of my children's toys, but I couldn't let this special one go, and when I was asked to decorate with an outer-space theme, I was glad I had kept this giant toy.

20 plus youth participated in the play, and many of them had siblings who attended. These cute ink pins (from Oriental Trading) were favors for the children.

The paint-your-own-Frisbee favors were also from Oriental Trading.

My friend, Molly, was in charge of the food, and it was so cute! The "rocket fuel" packages are fruit punch with chalkboard stickers on the backs of them.

Spray painted Styrofoam held the planet cake pops.

The fruit skewers looked like rockets.
We had a "blast" at the play and the after-party.
I'm glad you blasted into outer space with me today. I wish you could have seen the play. It was delightful.

I can that you live in an entire community of very talented decorators. I no longer get the OT catalogs, but perhaps if I make a small order they will put me back on the mailing list. How creative you and your friends are.

I know this must have been fun decorating with your church family volunteers. I'm sure the group enjoyed the fun theme. Save them all, soon will be time for VBS……..
Happy weekend Laurie.
