HAPPY NEW YEAR TABLES

New Year Decor

I previously shared my mantel, decorated for our New Year’s celebration.  Another of our traditions (we are big on traditions) is to leave the lights on the Christmas trees after I remove the Christmas ornaments.  We then throw (I’m serious) New Year’s hats, streamers, beads, etc. onto the trees and turn them into New Year’s trees.

New Year Tree

New Year Tree

We don’t do much of a celebration on New Year’s Eve any more.  I stayed up to watch the ball drop in New York, which was an hour ahead of the guitar drop on Beale Street in Memphis (which is in our time zone).

New Year Table

We will be celebrating the beginning of 2014 with an afternoon dinner of the Southern “good luck” staples of black eyed peas, cabbage, pork, and cornbread.

New Year Tablescape

New Year Tablescape

I’m using my red ruffled placemats, topped by my glass, gold-beaded chargers, my plaid bordered plates (Fitz and Floyd Country Plaid-I was so fortunate to find these at a deep discount in a store that was going out of business several years ago), a New Year paper plate, and a clear glass plate.

New Year Tablescape

I’m using a plastic stem for iced tea, next to a fancy wine stem!  I used a plaid Christmas cocktail napkin as a coaster.

New Year Centerpiece

Sheer fabric with gold stars is topped by a gold stand and a clock with streamers.

New Year Centerpiece

I printed a picture of a clock to cover the other side.  The mugs hold black and white confetti.  (That may be a mistake if we start throwing confetti during our meal!)

New Year Table for Children

I try to make the children’s table similar to the adult table, so they won’t feel pushed aside during a celebration.  Instead of gold, I used silver on their table, and instead of glass and china, I used plastic and paper on their table.

New Year Table for Children

I topped a black ruffled place mat with a dollar store throw away tray; a paper dinner plate; then a paper New Year’s dessert plate, and finally a clear plastic plate.

New Year Table for Children

I may have made another mistake, using horns on the children’s table!

New Year Decor

Confetti always gets “served” from my Auld Lang Syne bowl.

Wishing all of you a wonderful 2014!  2013 was a roller coaster ride for our family. It began with our grandson been born prematurely at one pound, 14 ounces, and having many, many ups and downs while he was hospitalized for over four months.  It has ended with that grandson being a healthy 17 pound one year-old.  We have been blessed. laurie

I’ll be partying with: Let’s Dish Wednesday at Cuisine Kathleen, Centerpiece Wednesday at The Style Sisters, Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch, and Seasonal Sundays at The Tablescaper.

Laurie, I'm glad you take off the ornaments before tossing the New Year's decorations on the trees! They look so festive with the hats and streamers. Your blue auld lang syne bowl is so interesting. I can just imagine the noise of the celebrations coming from the children's table! Happy New Year! Linda

Love your New Years tree - I never thought of that.
Your tables are so pretty and festive.
I am so glad that the little guy is doing so well.
Now it's time to take down all the stuff - I'm not looking forward to that.
Happy New Year - it's going to be the best!

I don't know if I've ever told you this, but my favorite tables that you do are the ones where you are having the whole, big, family over and have the matching kiddie table.

This one is so fun, and I LOVE the tradition of throwing things on the tree to turn it to a new year tree.

Actually, just the idea of leaving the lights on the tree for New Years is a wonderful one. It's such a great transition idea.

Yes... 2013 was a challenge for so many of us. We started with the death of my MIL and ended with the very sudden death of a friend.

But through it all, God is still God, and His is still good. I'm so glad to rest in His blessing!

What a fun idea! We don't have any traditions for New Years Day except to start taking down the holiday decorating. I like your dish stack- the clear glass gives it a nice festive look! I had never heard of this black eyed peas tradition until I started blogging.

What a wonderful idea to change the trees over so easily and they are so dramatic on each side of the gorgeous fireplace! The tables are set to festively and yes, the little ones are going to have more fun than you want with the horns. What fun. I hope 2014 is easier for you too!

How fun to use your Christmas tree as a New Years tree! I love your table and the stack that you came up with. Your clock centerpiece is perfect for New Years and how clever to cover the back as well. Love your kids table, too. I'm sure it's appreciated. Happy New Year with only the best ahead.
