Thank you for stopping by to see my vacation on the mantel.  Is this what is meant by a “staycation”?  I can tell you right now, I’d rather BE there!  Laurie

    You have the most unusual pieces!! Your mantle has all my favorite things on vacation, shells, sand, weather-beaten structures. Reminds me of home (Florida)!!

    Maybe I should try something like that on my mantel. I was supposed to go to Destin yesterday, but instead I'm having a staycation. Too much to do before hosting a bridal tea next Sunday. Thanks for reminding me where I should be.

    How pretty Laurie -- love those dishes -- they look like waves on your mantle. Love a beach vacation -- we're just an hour away from the river and our boat .....always nice to be on the water this time of year.

    Laurie, I love your mantel. So crisp and cool looking. We've had temps in the 100's, the soft breeze of the ocean or water is pretty appealing to me right now.

    I just this morning saw this, Laurie.
    I don't know if I have mentioned it before, but you were the inspiration for me trying to mix up things on my mantel. Before I found this blog, I just left it the same all the time.

    I love those two wooden lantern thingies flanking each end. They're perfect with the shell dishes.

    How do you hide your cords to the lamps? I'd like to try lamps since I'm such a copycat.

    In response to your question, chocolate pot sets came about because hot chocolate was a delicacy and very expensive in the 18th and 19th centuries. It had to be imported and was considered quite a treat! I found that Marie Therese (King Louis XIV's wife) had a servant whose sole responsibility was to supply the queen and her ladies with daily cups of chocolate! Now I'd like to get my little paws on one of those sets! *winks* Vanna
