I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.
Since we host approximately 30 people for holiday dinners. I am about half way finished with table settings for Thanksgiving dinner, so today I'm sharing two of my Thanksgiving tablescapes. (Of course, I have barely begun the cooking!)
This table is set in our family room.
I don't have enough matching dishes for ten people, so I've used different dishes on each end of the table. (Square plates:Certified International, Pamela Gladding; Other dinner plates: Ascot by Wood & Sons; My mother's flatware; cranberry stemware: a garage sale; one set of salt & pepper shakers were my mother's; the set in the little carrier was from a flea market)
I've set this table in the sunroom.
(Bowls: Certified International, Pamela Gladding; Dinner Plates: J.C. Penney Home Collection; Green stemware: wedding gifts 40 years ago; "turkey" napkins: Craft Fair; turkey napkin rings-Going out of Business Sale at a gift store; Flatware: estate sale)
Gravy tureen: yard sale; Indian salt & pepper: I have no idea; Pumpkin salt & pepper: flea market; tea pitcher: estate sale; turkey tureen for centerpiece: $5 at a gift store, because it has a chip on the base)

Oh Laurie, both of your tables are just gorgeous. I love the turkeys. The white one with the flowers is so pretty. I have a thing for white turkeys and I can't find one anywhere, wouldn't you know it. All of your china, crystal and silverware are beautiful. You have done such a beautiful job on your tables. ReplyDeleteYour tables look wonderful. I end up using my everyday rooster plates for Thanksgiving because my springtime china is just that, springtime! I need some thanksgiving plates, christmas too!

ReplyDeleteHi Laurie - just hopping around checking out everyone's tables and saw your salt and pepper shakers - the ones in the carrier thing. My mom gave me a tea pot and cup set that an elderly lady gave her probably 40+ years ago with that same scene on them, or a scene very close to that. Of course, mine are packed so I can't compare, but I really think they match. When we get moved, I'm going to come back to this post and check them out. She's told me the lady was from her church and mom used to carry her to the dr. and to church and such and she gave them to her as a thank you.

Hi Laurie! Just look at your beautiful tables. You just have the touch! I love all of your dishes, glasses not to mention all of the decorations on your table. I agree with Marty - that white turkey with the flowers is so pretty! Now I'm a lover of s & p and you've got some wonderful one going on here. I can't imagine cooking for 30 folks.

I had to laugh when I read your post on Cotton...yep, out here in West Texas, we're a cotton picking area, too. And...THANG ?? Isn't that the way it's SUPPOSED to be pronounced?? haahhaa

We lived next to a gin once, a million years ago, and had that cotton all over our yard, trees, house...us ! Then, as you say, a smart fella named Harold Harris came up with the idea of the cotton module.
I love both tables. Love the way the red goblets go on the first one. And I love the sunny effect of the Last tablescape. The dishes on both are so pretty!!

ReplyDeleteI come from a family of 8 & my Mom's sister had 7 so we did BIG family dinners when I was little. I think the most I've ever cooked for was 20, as that's how many I had room for at tables & chairs in FL. Of course, we could go outside onto the lanai then, too, which really helped take a load off inside. Now I'd be making reservations someplace!! More power to ya', Honey!! I hope you get lots of help.

ReplyDeleteWow-your tables look beautiful. I love the placemats with the leaves on the edges. I can't imagine having that many for Thanksgiving. Until last year we traveled to the in-laws where there were 9 of us. Last year I cooked and there were 6 of us...this year just 2 I think.

I hope you enjoyed your short tour of the shop. Wanted you to know Miss Scooter is no longer taking up presence in the new chair, so when you stop by again you'll have a seat in "your" room. Laurie, sorry I'm late arriving. Your tables look lovely. 30 for dinner! We are only having five of us and I've not yet done a table. The menu is planned though.
