Blogville is full of very efficient people. I'm not one of them! Everybody else has their Thursday's posting done before Wednesday is over. I'm doing well if I get Thursday's posting done before Thursday is over!
The salad plates were my grandmother's, so that's her monogram on them.

Chari knew how much I loved them, so when she saw that they were on sale at J. C. Penney on-line, she let me know about them, and I ordered them immediately. Thank you so much Chari. I am luvin' them.
You wouldn't know it when you look at my home, but I had an excellent High School Home Ec teacher. Mrs. Robinson taught us that you should always place the knife with the blade toward the plate. However, with these knives (which I bought at a flea market long ago), I don't think I should do that, because the company name is on that side of the knife. What do you think? Should I still place it with the blade toward the plate and show the engraved maker's name and pattern?
Since I only have 3 of the cups to coordinate with this china, I used two of them and two cups that had belonged to my grandmother. The pewter water goblets belonged to my mother.

I want to talk to one of you, because I would like to send my "fun" ironing to you (I know, I am just so kind). I ironed this tablecloth for a long time, and I still see a lot of places on it that look like it needs to be ironed!

I'm first! I'm first! Yeah! I love your table girlfriend! What caught my eye was the tablecloth...is that hand embrodiered? I love baskets of flowers! It takes you longer I think because you put such care and thought into every little detail and we love that!!!!! Love Ya! Lauralu :)

Well Miss Laurie... my granny told me that you turned the knife blade in to protect the users fingers... in case the accidently reached too high and picked up the blade.. so... I think I'd turn them in...

ReplyDeleteIt seems more and more that we have a lot in common. I do believe that I see some Old Master sterling (my pattern) and isn't that some Old Britain Castles hiding amongst the Spode? If it's not, then Spode has made something very similar to it.
I really think the best thing is the cross stitched tablecloth.

ReplyDeleteYou're too cute! I detest ironing... I'm so anal, it takes forever to iron it, then by the time I hang it up or lay it down, there's wrinkles again. The last time I had a wrinkled tablecloth, I sprayed it with Downy wrinkle releaser & smoothed it out. It looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!

I loved the baskets on the tablecloth and the little baskets on each plate. See how coordinated you are? I love to do the 'fun' ironing like tablecloths, napkins, & pillow cases; but not all those 100% cotton shirts my husband wears. My mother always ironed everything including her rags. She said they looked better in the drawer! I'm not that crazy, but I'm VERY expensive; so don't send me your tablecloths to iron. Sally

I can remember my mother had a coke bottle with an insert that made it a sprinkler for dampening before ironing her clothes...it was like a metal cork with holes in it.....I use to get a penny for every hankie I ironed of my dads.....I still love to iron hankies but the little lady vintage hankies.

Your table is very pretty -- love your grandmother's dishes and those knives -- and yes, I would still put the blade toward the plate -- perhaps you were meant to see the logo! I adore your little baskets -- I like flowers and things for individual settings and those baskets are terrific! I have a silver scoop like yours (actually, two) and I keep my collection of silver coffee spoons in them. When I serve coffee, one (or two depending on the crowd) can be placed on the table for those who wish to stir their coffee.

What a beautiful table setting. I really like the vintage table cloth and the little baskets of flowers at each place. That is such a pretty teapot on the side table. Your pink Spode dishes are lovely (I have Spode Blue Room where each plate is different).

Laurie, I know what you mean about ironing. I love the effect or ironing, but not the actual process. With linen tablecloths, there are always touchups to be done --after you have carefully ironed every inch of it!

Linens are one of my loves and that tablecloth is gorgeous with its embroidered basket of flowers! I love the napin rings and the mix of plates if just perfect!
