YOU KNEW I COULDN'T WAIT - DIDN'T YOU?

You knew I wouldn't be able to wait to do a tablescape using these wonderful napkin rings that I posted yesterday in my winnings from Rose Colored Glasses, didn't you? You were right! I just love how each tea pot on the napkin rings is different (you know me, I don't like anything that matches-- See, my plates are all different from one another too.)

You know where to go to find links to fabulous tablescapes, right?

Susan's beautiful blog, Between Naps on the Porch is the place to be on Thursdays!

Blogville is full of very efficient people. I'm not one of them! Everybody else has their Thursday's posting done before Wednesday is over. I'm doing well if I get Thursday's posting done before Thursday is over!

The salad plates were my grandmother's, so that's her monogram on them.A lot of us Blogvillians love these dinner plates (The Spode Archive Collection).

I have admired these chargers on Chari's (Happy to Design) blog as well as several others. Chari knew how much I loved them, so when she saw that they were on sale at J. C. Penney on-line, she let me know about them, and I ordered them immediately. Thank you so much Chari. I am luvin' them.

You wouldn't know it when you look at my home, but I had an excellent High School Home Ec teacher. Mrs. Robinson
taught us that you should always place the knife with the blade toward the plate. However, with these knives (which I bought at a flea market long ago), I don't think I should do that, because the company name is on that side of the knife. What do you think? Should I still place it with the blade toward the plate and show the engraved maker's name and pattern?

Since I only have 3 of the cups to coordinate with this china, I used two of them and two cups that had belonged to my grandmother. The pewter water goblets belonged to my mother.

I used a vintage tablecloth with cross stitched flower baskets on it. I have read some posts from bloggers who enjoy ironing. I want to talk to one of you, because I would like to send my "fun" ironing to you (I know, I am just so kind). I ironed this tablecloth for a long time, and I still see a lot of places on it that look like it needs to be ironed!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Click
here to get to Between Naps on the Porch to find all of the links to fabulous tablescapes. laurie

  2. Laurie - Your table is just so lovely. The absolute best part is your grandmother's salad plates. I have many pieces that belonged to my family and they are so precious to me. Your "mis-match" is a perfect match!

Thank you so much for sharing.

  3. Well Miss Laurie... my granny told me that you turned the knife blade in to protect the users fingers... in case the accidently reached too high and picked up the blade.. so... I think I'd turn them in...

now, I dont' know if Granny Odie was right... but it made sense to me... ;)

  7. Yes, I would definitely turn them blade inwards!

Thanks for sharing your lovely tableware.

  8. Well, why would the knife company do that. They should have known better. Too bad Virginia Robinson isn't still with us.

It seems more and more that we have a lot in common. I do believe that I see some Old Master sterling (my pattern) and isn't that some Old Britain Castles hiding amongst the Spode? If it's not, then Spode has made something very similar to it.

I really think the best thing is the cross stitched tablecloth.

  9. Laurie, you are way too modest for your own britches. ;-) I love, love that table! And those chargers, gorgeous and those teapot napkin rings are so cute and darling!

  10. Laurie, I love your table! Sorry I am not one of those people who like ironing! My mother does, but she is not in the same town with me. I am a stand by the dryer and fluff kind of girl.

I love those charger, always love pink/red transferware and your knives are wonderful. They are Pembroke by Aysnsley, aren't they? My mother has a whole set of it that I love!!!! :D Jewel

  11. I LOVE the chargers!!!
I am so into tone on tone
I never iron... takes too much time
That is why I never notice if someone forgets!

    I enjoy your blog!!

  14. It's beautiful Laurie! I thought about playing with tablescapes today, but that's as far as I got... I planned on going to Home Goods too & I'm still sitting here reading blogs...

You're too cute! I detest ironing... I'm so anal, it takes forever to iron it, then by the time I hang it up or lay it down, there's wrinkles again. The last time I had a wrinkled tablecloth, I sprayed it with Downy wrinkle releaser & smoothed it out. It looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!

  15. I loved the baskets on the tablecloth and the little baskets on each plate. See how coordinated you are? I love to do the 'fun' ironing like tablecloths, napkins, & pillow cases; but not all those 100% cotton shirts my husband wears. My mother always ironed everything including her rags. She said they looked better in the drawer! I'm not that crazy, but I'm VERY expensive; so don't send me your tablecloths to iron. Sally

  16. No wonder you couldn't wait to use the napkin rings. They are so cute! Love the tablecloth. It looks fine to me, but if you want to you can send it on over and I will iron it for you! :-)

  17. Love your table setting especially your tablecloth. I normally spray a little water on the cloth before ironing...works like a charm!

  19. Hi Laurie,
Chandy is right, you are way too modest. Your tablescapes are always beautiful and creative! You are definately a tablescape diva! I love those spode plates and the chargers from Penneys are just gorgeous. That pitcher must be spode too and oh I so love that. The vintage tablecloth and the napkin rings, all wonderful! Thanks for sharing my friend, it's always a treat! Hugs, Cindy

  21. Oh I couldn't have waited either! And I love what you've scaped with your little napkin rings! Love your mix and match plates and your grandmothers salad plates -- isn't if fun to give new life to some of these pretties that used to grace our parents and grandparents tables? And I certainly noticed your cute little sugar scuttle too!

I have the same Spode plates in blue and white, and I know you do too. I love Spode! You are worried about running late, I am amazed at all you do, and I hate ironing, too! Love Ya! Connie

  30. Hi there! I also have that 'which way to turn the knife' dilemma. And I truly don't know which way is the correct way. I don't like it when the engraved name of the manufacturer shows either .... Your photos today are especially nice.

  31. That is very very lovely!! I LOVE the red and white....I have red as an accent color in my kitchen/dining area. VERY nice indeed...love your sugar scuttle too!

  34. Dear Laurie,
very beautiful as always....each one unique and special. I love the new teapot napkin rings and the old, so to speak of your mother and grandmother's dishes...I love to iron pillow cases, napkins and tablecloths but shirts---forget it--it drives me crazy
I can remember my mother had a coke bottle with an insert that made it a sprinkler for dampening before ironing her clothes...it was like a metal cork with holes in it.....I use to get a penny for every hankie I ironed of my dads.....I still love to iron hankies but the little lady vintage hankies.

  35. Your table is very pretty -- love your grandmother's dishes and those knives -- and yes, I would still put the blade toward the plate -- perhaps you were meant to see the logo! I adore your little baskets -- I like flowers and things for individual settings and those baskets are terrific! I have a silver scoop like yours (actually, two) and I keep my collection of silver coffee spoons in them. When I serve coffee, one (or two depending on the crowd) can be placed on the table for those who wish to stir their coffee.

  36. Oh Laurie I guess those teapot napkin rings are just mean for you :-)I like your table setting very much. The reds-whites, and the view :-) I especially love your tablecloth with cross stitch accents.

  39. What a beautiful table setting. I really like the vintage table cloth and the little baskets of flowers at each place. That is such a pretty teapot on the side table. Your pink Spode dishes are lovely (I have Spode Blue Room where each plate is different).

Isn't it wonderful to have pieces handed down from family members? I would love to have some monogrammed dishes.

  40. You really do have so mnay beautiful stuff, Laurie. But that plate with initials. It's mine! You very well know CW are my initials. LOL! Those teapot napkin rings are really cute, blend well with all your other many cute stuff....Christine

  41. Oh that tablecloth!

My heart always beats a bit faster when I see red transferware.

    Truly lovely.

  42. Laurie, I know what you mean about ironing. I love the effect or ironing, but not the actual process. With linen tablecloths, there are always touchups to be done --after you have carefully ironed every inch of it!
Your tablescape is very appealing.. love that tablecloth and the napkin rings.

  43. Laurie, Late or not, I love your table!! The colors, the plates, the silver, the style... You do good work, girl! Everything is just right!
Oh and yeah, you know I iron everything!!! Stems from being the oldest in the household and HAD to do housework, including all the ironing... And in my mom's day, she used that liquid starch stuff~ ooooohhh..... hugs, Sue

  45. Laurie Eve..I love your gift that you won..those teapot(pewter?) napkin rings are so charming..they have found the perfect home! Mrs. Card's monogrammed dishes are fabulous..did you get the silver goblets when you got married, like I did?
Don't know what to tell you about Mother's judgment on the knife..probably by the book , no matter what is printed on that side..
anyway, it all looks beautiful. Susie

  46. What a pretty tablescape. I love the flowers in the little baskets. The teapot napkin rings are adorable. That is weird for the engraver to put the name on the blade of the knife like that. I think I would turn it over so it didn't show.
    Everything looks just perfect.

Linens are one of my loves and that tablecloth is gorgeous with its embroidered basket of flowers! I love the napin rings and the mix of plates if just perfect!
Don't you just love those bigger pictures so we can see all the lovely details without having to click on each one!! Those silver baskets- just precious!

Your tabelscape was just yummy...I loved the colors. I can't believe you girls make the time to do all these lovely tables. I'm lucky if I get the placemats on the table...

Yeah, I'm just a joy in the kitchen. I'm a lousy cook too, by the way.

Thanks for the birthday greeting for my boy, and the kind words. He is soooo funny! Boys are ever so interesting.
