To see some pretty tablescapes (the kind that aren't fun-eee) go to Between Naps On the Porch.
When I think of Father's Day, I think of the dreaded skinny little box that many fathers receive on Father's Day. They immediately know that they are getting another tie. So my Father's Day tablescape features "the tie that no father wants to get"!
If you are a regular visitor to my blog, you know that I am a major collector of a lot of stuff, and you know that I have trouble getting rid of anything. My husband complains about that frequently. HOWEVER, these boxes contain neatly folded ties that he no longer wears, but he still keeps them! You should see the racks in his closet that contain his current, wearable ties! I don't complain though. When you are the kind of crazy collector I am, you can't complain about a few boxes of neatly folded ties. When I asked if I could borrow some of his ties for my tablescape, he asked me to be careful with them! Be careful with ties that he will never wear again! Obviously, I'm not the only person in this household who needs psychiatric help. Do you know if there are psychiatrists who give family group rates?
I put a tie on a bunny for the center of the table, and gave him some ornamental grass to hold. The bottom plate in each place setting is a dark blue pottery plate. I have topped each plate with a tie and added a clear glass plate over the tie. These wooden ducks are the most masculine of my napkin rings.
Now, here's the part where you can really start laughing! My tie tablecloth! EDITED TO ADD: Comments about how much time it took to "make" this tablecloth have led me to let you know that it took MUCH less time than what I spend trying to iron a tablecloth, and it was a lot more fun than ironing!

Laurie, I think this is fun and cute and funny too! I love the tie theme for father's day, it's just too appropriate! And it had to take alot of work "weaving" those ties into a tablecloth! I love it - nice touch of whimsey (just hope nobody drips any gravy on those ties lol). Hugs, Kathy
Oh Laurie...I have missed visiting your wonderful blog while I've been out! You have the most marvelous sense of humor and I always leave with a smile on my face after visiting you here. Loved it!! ;-) Bo
Hi Laurie!

I'm sure glad you did post this because it is just pure fun, not fun! This is the most brilliant tablescape I have seen yet and hubby's tie collection is impressive. He has some very unusual ties and someone is going to think they hit the gold mine years from now when they go through those boxes.
Oops, that was supposed to read "not fun-ee."
what an absolute hoot!!! certainly not your run of the mill tablescape, and how I love it!!! Cleverness to the nines... Have you seen chair seats that have been woven with ties instead of cane? adorable. thanks for sharing your knack for silliness and fun! :-) Sue
Oh wow, Laurie! This is very unique and surely a lot of work and I commend you for that. I really like it cause I like unusual stuff. Very colorful! My, Danny sure has a lot of ties....Christine
I absolutely love this idea! I collect old ties to make quilts out of. I could do this while they are "waiting in the wings" to be included in a quilt. Thanks for the idea! Have a great day!
Laurie... what a creative idea... I especially like that scrabble tie... is it for sale on ebay? LOL

So much creativity in this post! The tie tablecloth is so adorable! Wow! That's a lot of ties, by the way! The clear plate over the plate and tie was so clever. The bunny with the tie is my favorite, though. Love it! What a great table!!

I can't believe you hesitated to show this Laurie!!! It's the cutest table! I love it.
You put a lot of work into it and it turns out to be the perfect table, for Father's Day!! Wish I had thought of that.
I don't remember the last time J wore a tie. I even tried to sell his ties at the garage sale, a couple of years ago, no takers. There are still several, he will never wear, in the closet.
Brilliant idea!! Bravo!
Laurie, that is soooo COOL! You outdid yourself with that tablecloth and taking a theme to its full potential. So glad your hubs had that many ties for you to play with. LOVE IT!
This is so funny. I love it.
And the ties hehe. All I can say is Wow. A really fun tablescape
LAURIE LOL!
How cute ansd clever are you?
Precious! Precious!
Love the amazing tablecloth! :)
You are too clever! I've always wanted to make a crazy quilt out of old ties, but just haven't done it. You have some great ties there - the stinky, stinky one and the scrabble one. Take care, Sally

Laurie, You are so clever, my friend! I was so enamored with your bunny wearing a tie, it took a bit for me to realize your tablecloth is made of woven ties! I LOVE it! This is such a whimsical tablescape & it's brilliant! ☺♥☺ Diane
Laurie, I THINK THIS IS THE MOST FAB idea for a Father's Day tablescape that you should COPYRIGHT! I'm serious! Oh my PEANUT BUTTER... I couldn't stop being amazed! Plus, the woven tie tablecloth just ROCKS~ ;) Hey, my hubby is mailing the package today from Fed Ex...that way it will all be insured and should get to you safe and sound. I'll email you with the total amount then later today. Lots of blessings to you are wished for today! ~CC Catherine ;)
Hands down the most unique father's day table covering I have ever seen!! I love it. Who knew there would be a purpose for all those ties dad got over the years. Love it Laurie!!
Oh.my.gosh. That is so cool, original, unique, manly, interesting...I could go on and on. It makes me wish I would have thought to have incorporated that idea into a display when I was working in a clothing store years ago.
Laurie, you have more talent in your pinky than I'll ever hope to have....
Laurie,

I have a friend who made a skirt out of old ties, a long one, it was beautiful, and no one else had one like it!
Thanks for the WHITE reminder!
That's the most innovative one I've seen yet, girl! I love it! I use to cut up ties to make crazy quilts. But you've got me beat here for sure!

Hi, Laurie I just love the tie woven cloth! The rabbit with his tie! Oh I wish you hubby would let me have some of his ties! I want to weave some chair bottoms using ties. I have 4 so far.lol This table is wonderful!!! I love that you took all the time to weave the cloth. You should not take it a part, sneak it out of the house and send it to me! Need my address? lol Thank you for checking up on me! I have been down with an infection for several weeks, Doc trying to see why, more meds and tests. I am still sick but trying to feel better! I got a lot of projects done the few weeks I had. I am planning a trip, soon as I am better, I am going to drive to a small town on the back roads, I have not driven in 4 years. So there is a Walmart, antique shop and a few thrift stores there. I am going alone, Just Me! Freedom! Here I come! lol
You are brilliantly creative~I love it all!
Hi Laurie! Your imagination knows no bounds ~ I always LOVE to come see what you are going to surprise us with next. :)
I think your tie table covering is so ingenious, and beautiful, too!
Have a healthy, delicious day. xo~m.
Laurie, now this is one clever and unique table, so great for Father's Day, love it!
I have that same bunny with tray, he is cute.
Great job!!!
Now I know what to do with all the old silk ties I have, actually they are to make a quilt with that I haven't gotten to yet.
Linda Q

Eve, I am in shock over the tie-tyed
tablecloth.."oh, my goodness"(to quote grand Whitlee),,that is darling..what a clever idea..since i am ironing tablecloths right now, i am in total agreement with you! Very dapper!! Thanks, Susie
OMG!!! This is amazing!! I am totally stealing this idea:):):) WE will be away for Father's day but next year I am doing a table like this!!!! I love every single thing about it! The tablecloth is FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XO, Pinky
Laurie, I obviously hadn't seen this one. It's fantastic. I'd seen a tablecloth made with ties, and always thought I'd like to try this idea. I think covering it with a piece of plexiglass would be a good idea. Don't want to harm that collection of ties before putting them back in the box. LOL
Thanks for sending us over here. Fabulous table! ~ Sarah
