TIE ONE ON FOR FATHER'S DAY!

Have you ever had an idea that you thought would be kind of cute and fun, only to find out once you executed the idea that it turned out reeeeely Fun-EEE instead of fun? That's what happened to me when I was trying to come up with an idea for a Father's Day table. As a matter of fact, it turned out soooo fun-eee that I almost didn't post it, but it was late at night, and I didn't have time to come up with another tablescape. I didn't want to miss the fun of Tablescape Thursday sponsored by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch, so I decided I would post it. Maybe I'll make it on Nikki's Blah Blah Blah Blog for "I Wish Wednesday", when Nikki says "I wish somebody would tell Laurie that T.T. stands for Tablescape Thursday, not Tacky Tablescape".

To see some pretty tablescapes (the kind that aren't fun-eee) go to Between Naps On the Porch.

When I think of Father's Day, I think of the dreaded skinny little box that many fathers receive on Father's Day. They immediately know that they are getting another tie. So my Father's Day tablescape features "the tie that no father wants to get"!

If you are a regular visitor to my blog, you know that I am a major collector of a lot of stuff, and you know that I have trouble getting rid of anything. My husband complains about that frequently. HOWEVER, these boxes contain neatly folded ties that he no longer wears, but he still keeps them! You should see the racks in his closet that contain his current, wearable ties! I don't complain though. When you are the kind of crazy collector I am, you can't complain about a few boxes of neatly folded ties. When I asked if I could borrow some of his ties for my tablescape, he asked me to be careful with them! Be careful with ties that he will never wear again! Obviously, I'm not the only person in this household who needs psychiatric help. Do you know if there are psychiatrists who give family group rates?

I put a tie on a bunny for the center of the table, and gave him some ornamental grass to hold. The bottom plate in each place setting is a dark blue pottery plate. I have topped each plate with a tie and added a clear glass plate over the tie.

These wooden ducks are the most masculine of my napkin rings.

Now, here's the part where you can really start laughing! My tie tablecloth! EDITED TO ADD: Comments about how much time it took to "make" this tablecloth have led me to let you know that it took MUCH less time than what I spend trying to iron a tablecloth, and it was a lot more fun than ironing!

Oops, that was supposed to read "not fun-ee."

I absolutely love this idea! I collect old ties to make quilts out of. I could do this while they are "waiting in the wings" to be included in a quilt. Thanks for the idea! Have a great day!

I can't believe you hesitated to show this Laurie!!! It's the cutest table! I love it.

You put a lot of work into it and it turns out to be the perfect table, for Father's Day!! Wish I had thought of that.

I don't remember the last time J wore a tie. I even tried to sell his ties at the garage sale, a couple of years ago, no takers. There are still several, he will never wear, in the closet.

Brilliant idea!! Bravo!

Hi, Laurie I just love the tie woven cloth! The rabbit with his tie! Oh I wish you hubby would let me have some of his ties! I want to weave some chair bottoms using ties. I have 4 so far.lol This table is wonderful!!! I love that you took all the time to weave the cloth. You should not take it a part, sneak it out of the house and send it to me! Need my address? lol Thank you for checking up on me! I have been down with an infection for several weeks, Doc trying to see why, more meds and tests. I am still sick but trying to feel better! I got a lot of projects done the few weeks I had. I am planning a trip, soon as I am better, I am going to drive to a small town on the back roads, I have not driven in 4 years. So there is a Walmart, antique shop and a few thrift stores there. I am going alone, Just Me! Freedom! Here I come! lol

Laurie, I obviously hadn't seen this one. It's fantastic. I'd seen a tablecloth made with ties, and always thought I'd like to try this idea. I think covering it with a piece of plexiglass would be a good idea. Don't want to harm that collection of ties before putting them back in the box. LOL
Thanks for sending us over here. Fabulous table! ~ Sarah
