In my “neck of the woods”, we have a “good luck” meal on New Year’s Day. It must include black eyed peas and cabbage. I add sterilized dimes to the black eyed peas. The legend is that, if you get a dime in your serving, you will have good luck in the new year. Of course, if you bite down on a dime, you’re not starting the new year with luck!
In case you think I’m one of those efficient people who have already put away their Christmas décor, I’m going to be honest and tell you that I removed the snowmen that hung from these winter wreaths and replaced them with New Year’s paper plates.
